Tbh im still not sold that Rachin Ravindra is a cross format player, particulary for T20s.

Small sample size and i know his international oppertunities he's been down the order in that slog role (i mean all T20 is a bit of a slog but even more so when your coming in with 5 or 6 overs to go) but currrently averaging 12 and a strikerate of 116 isnt flash hot is it.
Even looking at his domestic career where he has played more games and at the top of the order where he should be more comfortable that average improves only slightly to 15 with a strike rate of 122......certainly not something that screams T20 demon.

He's certainly found his niche in the 50 over game for sure and im positive he'll make his mark in Test cricket once given the oppertunity and who knows......maybe the IPL will be the stage that he takes his T20 career next level and goes gangbusters.

I am concerned however about his form since the World Cup.......over 2 months ago and he hasnt had a substantial innings since (45 being his only double figure innings). I know management were concerned about the workload for a young player and rested him a bit but geez thats a fine line with the form and momentum he was on and can be a fickle thing.....when your in it, you want to stay in it, i would of just let him make hay while the sun shined.

I know itā€™s only 2 test matches but I canā€™t see openers also keeping.

Imagine fielding first, both innings Conway would be bagged after concentrating every ball keeping having 15 minutes to get his pads
back on to bat.

Be bloody tough and Conways not in the best of form.

I agree a test match opening batsman has never kept in the history of test match cricket to the best of my knowledge.

Can you get 20 overs form him Mitchell Bowler goes down? I think you need 5 genuine Bowlers.
Hmmm

From about 2010 to 2012 ish New Zealand cricket experimented with 5 bowlers vs sides with 6 batsman and eventually found the recipe that worked for us was 5 batsman 4 bowlers and an all rounder. The team that one us the test match championship had this formula so it works. Let Michell be an all rounder that is what he broke into the side as. If Colin Munro's seam up can take wickets in tests than so can Mitchell's. Mitchell's a far more accomplished bowler at FC level than Munro ever was.

Mitchell is not as good as Oram at bowling but he is a good little seam up bowler and while you guys all rate his batting you may be surprised to know that I rate him as an all rounder and think he is a canny bowler.

I know we havent been in the best of Test form of late but do we run out our full strength line up against the yarpies?

I mean what does Kane Williamson (who seems to be picking up injuries with ease these days) really gain from batting the South African C team to death?......id rather keep him fresh for the Aussies.

Surely if you cant blood a Ravindra or an ORourke, or even give Ashok a taste, in this series.....when can you?

We could lose without Kane

I wish they would Bowl him more, but they never seem to want to go there.
