No denying it is a good start, but also no denying that Latham and Young have once again not converted good starts. It often unfolds rapidly from there, hopefully the England bowlers are tired enough now to make it easier.

This is the beauty of scoring quickly. You bat for a while and the game has advanced rapidly. Slower and semi-regular wickets keep the opposition on par. One more wicket and England are on par.

I hope that Ravindra comes out to advance the game.

I get the not converting argument but I'll take that opening partnership every time if we could.

I was shocked as well.
I went through the fixtures a few weeks ago.
Only ODIs and T20s left.
It was one of my arguments for new blood. We have domestic players that are match fit and performing.

Come July, they will be out of season and out of practice.

I'd imagine we'll do the NZ thing of bringing through ODI cricket first.

Robinson seemed a weird choice to plump for, hopefully the talent i.d. is bang on in the next few months.

Yep, going nowhere, don't advance the game, and give away any advantage we've earned when wickets fall.

It is the passive, conservative NZ approach on and off the field that is paralysing us. Once again, the opposite of the approach that earned us success in India.

Need an aggressive partnership from Mitchell/Blundell with some cream on the top from Phillips and Santner. All just need to play their natural games.

I think we need 400 minimum.

This is the key part of the test match right now

Blundell dropped twice, Mitchell looking unsure and then out ...

I’m sort of happy to lose this battle to win the war.
If some how we win this game the pressure would be relieved a little on Stead.
Another loss has to force Management's hand or at least make Stead think of stepping down.

Should already be at that stage regardless of the results of this game
