As the story goes he was coaching the Tigers when they signed a rugby guy named James Black who was having his first game of League.
Jones said to Black, "I'm going to pull you off at half time "
Blacks reply was, "that's great. In rugby union we only get oranges ".
Not sure if it's true but makes a good story. šŸ˜Œ

He is more known for being in the media and his time as the Wallabies coach than as the coach of Balmain.

He coached the Wallabies for 4 years including the first world cup. Surprisingly he lasted 3 seasons as coach of Balmain. My main memories of that time was Balmain were going well under Ryan in 1990 and then fell off a cliff under Jones.

Gary Freeman's book at some good insight about Jones taking over. He favoured Brian Smith (the rugby convert not the coach). The main one was he didn't know what jersey numbers for the rugby league positions.

He's been outspoken over the years and seemed like a piece of work at times. But this is another level. Even in New Zealand we have MeToo journalists. In the past they have been to obsessed with the woman being the victim. Even in one case where it was clear it was the other way. This is a good case that men can be victims to.

Balmain had back to back GF appearances under Ryan. One where Terry Lamb knocked Ellery Hanley out and the other where they were beaten but should have won v Canberra

I remember Jones Wallabies team which played a league style, Mark Ella at stand off and that gobshite Campese on the wing
