Social πŸŽ₯ Movies

Haven't watched Gilbert Grape since studying in one of my English classes at high school in the 90s. I remember gaining a real appreciation for it at the time as it was not the sort of movie I'd even consider watching as a teenager. But yeah Leo as a mentally challenged kid that looked up to his big brother was the highlight for sure, I do remember the old heartstrings being pulled a bit back then.

Might add to the watchlist seeing as it sounds like it holds up πŸ‘Œ

Was perusing the movie listings earlier, and spotted this odd warning under Marty Supreme... "wound detail" πŸ€”

Haven't watched it yet but for a movie that I only know is about a dude playing table tennis, this little tidbit has me intrigued πŸ˜…

I'll go see Bone Temple, had low expectations for it after the weirdness of the last one, but still want to see at cinema just to see what the hell that ending was about, plus I just like movies at the movie theatre regardless of how good or sh!t they end up being.

While I didn't necessarily dislike 28 Years Later, I was generally underwhelmed after the trailer promised an atmosphere that only lasted maybe half an hour before the weirdness and uber-zombie-appendages kicked in :ROFLMAO:

Finally got around to watching Bone Temple last night before it leaves cinemas, was quite an interesting watch. While I did enjoy it more than 28 Years Later, it does feel like 28 Years Later v1.5 rather than a full on sequel, and perhaps future viewings of both movies in quicker succession than a year apart may give me more appreciation for the first one (maybe).
Given there's another cliffhanger for another film (though not as out-the-gate random as the Jimmy Morphin' Power Rangers from the last one πŸ˜…), I probably will rewatch them together as a refresher before the new one whenever that's due out.

As others have mentioned, Ralph Fiennes was great, and the use of music relating to his little bunker stereo system was a nice touch. I personally was a big fan of the use of Duran Duran hah, the Rio album was the first non-classical CD I remember our family having, so very much a guilty pleasure πŸ˜… Would've picked another song over Radiohead's Everything In It's Right Place though when that popped up, feel like I've heard that in a bunch of movies now (notably the Tom Cruise version of Vanilla Sky).
Jimmy's were brutal, Huge Hog zombie actually got an interesting arc beyond Sub Zero Fatalitying dudes and swinging aforementioned appendage around so that was nice too hah :ROFLMAO:

Also watched Iron Lung over the long weekend, didn't know much about it beforehand beyond the creepy poster of an dinosaur/alien looking skull (which was why I decided in the moment to go as I just felt like a turn-the-brain-off kinda movie that day) and knowing a Youtuber made it, and... well... it was fine. I suppose πŸ˜…
Didn't know it was based on a video game until the opening credits, and it very much felt like a movie based on a video game, including the incredibly cheesy dialogue and exposition dump near the beginning which had my brain fading almost immediately in the opening 20 odd minutes.

It did get quite creepy with a claustrophobic tenseness, but as I had kinda missed perhaps some key details about the character & setting at the start (aforementioned brain fade, guess I did literally turn my brain off a bit too much) I found myself disconnected from the character's plight, so made for a somewhat frustrating watch. Did I mention his dialogue was super cheesy :ROFLMAO:
Anyway, I understand he basically funded it himself (and acted in it basically by himself) so good on him for the effort at least.

Have you guys seeing Disclosure Day trailer? Weird governments have been admitting UAPs since 2022 and rumoring a big event around 2027 and now an old Steven Spielberg releasing an alien movie after his buddy released a disclosure doco 6 months ago

Also those politicians kept talking about 2030, new world order, you’ll own nothing and be happy, don’t think future me will be nostalgic about 2020s eh

I re-watch the first two Godfather movies every Christmas break and he's the secret sauce that quietly holds it all together amongst the showier performances.

The scene where he breaks the news of the Sonny death to Vito is amazing.

But my favourite is in part 2 when he uses history to suggest the appropriate course of action to an imprisoned Frankie Five Angel's while also lamenting the fall of the Corleone empire.

And of course he makes every second of screen time count in Apocalypse Now.

Shout out to Falling Down as well, another favourite in the Dad movie canon.

Apocalypse Now is one of those movies I've been meaning to see for years but just never got around to putting the time aside to watch. I specifically recall renting the DVD a couple of times, and recording it off Sky back when I actually had a Sky-box, and still haven't watched it. Not sure I've seen it popup in streaming - will get to it eventually!

RIP Robert Duvall, one of those actors that seemed to pop up everywhere. At least he got to a ripe old age, compared to the last few celebrity deaths that have popped up so far this year.

You won't regret it.

Just make sure to watch the theatrical cut, the Redux adds a lot of bloat that's more interesting if you've already seen the original cut.
