Social 🍎 A Weighty Issue

I got diagnosed with fatty liver a couple of years back. Basically in the name, fat cells accumulate around your liver (Hint: they aren't supposed to). It can lead to to liver cancer/failure.

Really an interesting exercise in analysing your dietary intake.

Kicked it in 6 months, but fuck me it took a massive lifestyle change and overreaction on my behalf.

Basically, it was the result of a decade of low income and poor mental health. Really highlighted just how bad poverty (low income) is and how difficult it can be to break out of - especially when it just stacks up constantly.

My situation was the tip of the iceberg. There are people out there who won't be able to break the cycle and I fully understand why.
Good work getting making changes to lifestyle.

I had a doctor mention this to me. Also had a few blood tests and ultrasound sessions. That may not have been specifically for fatty liver but I remember it being mentioned. I also had surgery and the surgeon mentioned it afterwards. That was a bit of a wake up call.

The original doctor made it seem like it wasn't a big deal. Mainly as a lot of men have a bit of a belly. I started taking it more seriously as I looked at more health and fitness content online, also around the time of having surgery I had a change in doctor.

At the time I was 92-94kg. I got down to 84kg. I am back to 90kg but the difference in body composition, energy & fitness levels from when I was 92-94kg is night and day.

I have been meaning to go back to get it checked out again.

Good on you for the changes.

They can pick it up your bloods. I'm on another medication that required me to have bloods every 6 months, so the doctor tacked that on there.

You're right. It was a bit of a wake up call for me too. Hence the fire sale on shitty food.

The way I see it is that it's not a big deal until it is and theres no overreaction when it comes to being nicer to the things that keep you alive.

Further to my other post on non alcholic fatty liver.

Seeing old photos with how chubby my face was is also quite a stark change. I can now see my check bones. My face was also constantly breaking out red with rosacea. That was also cleared up a lot by diet. I did a bit of medication to finish off the last of it.

Another clue to a bad diet is your skin or other parts of your body.

You big on energy drinks? I have a hunch that those little bastards are causing more harm than what people realise.

Just a suspicion.
I went cold turkey on those in 2009. I fixed my lifestyle in 2020.

The rosacia cleared up a bit after eliminating energy drinks but is was still there. I used to have a red bull or V most days. Decided to quite them and haven't touched them since.

I have started having some zero-sugar energy drinks recently as a treat. It isn't often, maybe after doing work around the house on the weekend as a treat instead of having a beer.

Apparently 'Milkthistle' tablets (nutrient pills) are good for clearing your liver out too. I've been throwing them back.

Dunno if they work, but they were part of what I was doing to get rid of the liver issues.

I'm fairly introverted so not the typical 'personality' I'd associate with a trainer, but at the same time could be an opportunity to overcome certain fears (never been a sell myself / put myself out there type). And worst case I'll just learn a bunch of health related stuff and get another qualification to pretty up the CV, if actually being a trainer doesn't pan out!
Mate that personality could make you that rare trainer who's not all ego and toxic positivity.

WTF bro! What happened?
Went for a 6 km walk with the Mrs Saturday night from the Kau through part of Otara and Papatoetoe. She almost tripped of Gt South Road… which I was hassling her about.

Then a few minutes later, tripped up of a change in the footpath at the top of the Redoubt Road motorway bridge. Inches away from going on to the road. Dislocated finger (then found a fracture when x-rayed), head Inc concussion, banged up shoulder and grazes of arm and leg. Finished walking most of the way home until started staggering so S went home and got the car.

S went for a walk by herself last night and found a two inch change in height from paving stones to concrete and a pool of blood.

We might need to get you some headgear!

Stupid thing is, that because there’s so many uneven footpaths and broken footpaths around here, I normally wear a headlamp but didn’t take it because we didn’t think the paths were to bad for that route.

Sorry to read this mate & hope you come right soon. It's not a joke but exercise has become a dangerous undertaking. Walking, running & even bike rides have become impossible. If it's not the footpaths it's the dogs or their ferral owners or doped up drivers.
Bring on the footy & we can get fit jumping up & down & running to the fridge for a beer while the bloody bunker works out which way the call goes. Not long now
