Social đźŤŽ A Weighty Issue

Hi all, with Miket12's permission i am restarting this very important thread on health and mental issues.

A while back i thought i would be coming on here at some stage to post some good news. That being the huge amount of weight that i finally managed to lose and all about my new healthier lifestyle, mostly inspired by MikeT12 and others on the site.
Unfortunately, that was not to be.

I have lost somewhere in the realms of 25-30 kg. Mostly through diet changes and some increases in physical activity on a daily basis.
However unbeknownst to me, this came at a cost.

I didn't realise it at the time but late last year i started to lose my eyesight. I honestly didn't even notice this happening as it was very gradual. I found myself avoiding computer screens and struggling to watch TV, having difficulty driving at night etc. But i thought it was just the tiredness that i was suffering causing me to be a bit... foggy. I purchased new glasses at the start of this year and destroyed them in months just by continuous cleaning trying to fix my issues. I had plans to go back to the store and demand they replace them as it couldn't be my fault but that didn't happen.

About this time i picked up another issue, this one a little more sensitive in nature. One i didnt even know a male could get. When i finally went and spoke to my Doc about it he took one look and told me i had a problem.

Turns out i have Type 2 Diabetes.

I lost all that weight, but now i got sick and its not the type that gets better on its own.

Now the good news I am sitting at a computer looking at a monitor with nearly no issues. My personal health issue is long gone and not even a factor anymore. Yes i am taking a pill to help with my blood sugar issue, and i check my sugar levels 3 times a day. I am basically on a Keto diet now, but its not all that bad. With the changes in diet i had already taken to lose the weight, i really didn't have to make too many more.

I don't drink alcohol, fizzy drinks, eat pasta, rice, bread or potato, but i have recently found a Keto Icecream thats worth eating, and thank god im still allowed meat, though i focus on white meats mostly. And eggs, god so many eggs.

But the best thing is I can interact with my friends again on here. I can put up with losing a lot, but my eyesight isn't one of them.

So while i may not be on as much as i once was, expect to see me around a bit more than i have been recently.

Cheers all
Long live the rainbows and butterflies

total weight loss, somewhere from +128 kgs to last reading at 104 kgs and still dropping

Guessing since I started this topic pre the Turk attack that it's time I came clean on this topic.

When Shayleen got sick, I started not doing things for me but concentrating on her, then I fell back into some bad habits with eating and reducing my exercise. Slowly, the weight I had lost came back on and I started to get depressed and eventually got to the point with what I've since found out was Carers Fatigue, which led to some large mental health issues and counselling. The weight gain effected my blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels. The walking and other exercise wasn't doing enough so the beginning of August, I went back to the eating plan I'd used previously to reduce weight.

Last time, there was nearly 50kg to shift, this time it's 30kg..... and I'm nearly half way there. Funny how this weekend, most are looking forward to the holiday on Monday, I'm looking forward to the following weekend which is a Cheat Weekend!!!!

Like I said previously in this thread, find what works for you and stick with it. If what you try isn't working, keep looking until you find something that is.

And, ladies and gentlemen, enjoy those celery sticks.... it's one of the few foods which takes more energy to eat and digest it than the energy the food puts into your body!!!

@Wrighty

My latest update. On the scales this morning (I weigh myself first thing in the morning so its comparing to the same thing each day) weighed in at 100.4kg so down form 105.3kg at beginning of December

my favourite shorts are loose and starting to hang off me so the waist line is definitely shrinking. Can certainly see changes in my body - mainly my stomach is reducing.

Sticking fairly strongly to meals and portion sizes. not feeling hungry and seem to have more energy.

Got the all clear yesterday to start light exercise so I am looking at that from tomorrow onwards. Be interesting if that increases my appetite or not.

will update again next week, same time

Over the weekend, I hit halfway to my goal weight (24kg gone from 48kg goal since the beginning of August). Even that will put my just into the “unhealthy “ BMI of 26.2. But, considering I started @ 40.7, I’m not too concerned about it… just want to fit back into the jeans I brought in Dallas.

Hey Guy's, first time on this thread and never thought i would be commenting here coz i'm a very small guy. I am 164cm and weighed 68 kgs. Went to the doctor in early january to test for prostate cancer, because i hadn't been to the doctor since 2011 (never needed to coz i very rarely get sick) he sent the blood test off and ordered the full spectrum of test's. My prostate cam back fine but i had very high cholesterol, 7.9. He took my blood pressure and that was high as well 176 over 104, he tested me standing up which gives a higher reading but that's still high. I was sent to get a ct scan to see if i had any blockages in the arteries. It came back that i had a high grade blockage in my Left Anterior Descending artery. So i was then sent for an Angiogram to see if i needed a stent or not, turned out i had a 90% blockage so they put a stent in there and then. All this was a real shock to because as i said i'm a small guy, i go to the gym 5 days a week after i have done my workout i run 3 kms on the treadmill. 6 months ago i run in the city to surf which is a 14km fun run here in Sydney. I thought i was healthy, how wrong i was. Since learning this i have changed my diet and i'm now down to 66kgs, my blood pressure has come down thanks to the pills i'm now on. i can oniy walk on the treadmill for the next month until i get permission from the cardiologist to get back into lifting weights and running again. I'm writing this coz i just want to share this with you guys that seemingly fit people can still have problems health wise and we shouldn't take it for granted that coz we aren't showing any symptoms of being unwell that we don't need to go have a check up every now and again. If i had found out about this earlier i could have done something about and not get to the stage where i could have had a heart attack at any moment. It didn't sink in to me how serious it was until i had to explain it to my daughter and to see the look of concern on her face was heart braking for me.
good luck on your health journey guys. lets all be safe and well to watch the boys play in the GF this year.

Congrats but is it ok to lose so much weight in such a short period?

What’s your routine and diet??

Congrats again that’s a huge achievement- excuse the pun!
Pretty much eliminated fats and most carbs. Around 250g of protein each day with the rest coming from fruit and vege. Trying to keep cal intake to between 1500 to 1800 per day.... I've developed a love/hate relationship with broccoli.... it loves me, I hate it!!!!. Every six weeks, have a "cheat weekend" where we eat mostly high fat food for two days in obscene amounts then two days regretting it with the first only eating apples and then add protein back in the second day and back to the normal plan after that.

Exercise is most walking but the breathlessness has gone, range has increased and speed has increased. Doing a lot of garden work... things like bending down has really improved as well as getting up after kneeling down. Wife says my breathing at night has improved from a freight train to a kitten purr.

My "end goal" isn't any set weight but is to fit back into some jeans I'd brought in Dallas ten years ago. On the weekend, I was trying on different jeans and put on one pair which could barely do up... probably another 5 - 8 kg till I could wear them. When I took them off, I realised they were the ones I'd purchased at Costco in Dallas. That was the moment I realised how far I'd come.

Considering she had been told that menopause, chemo and surgery had stuffed her body up and that she would never lose weight again, the fact my wife has lost over 30kg has really confused our GP and her breast doctor. Me, I couldn't be prouder of her. I know if it wasn't for her doing this with me, I wouldn't have stuck with it.

Its been 3 months now since i found out i had high blood pressure and high cholesterol which resulted in me having a stent implanted, this week i got my results back after taking medication and the results are very promising. My total cholesterol has gone down from 7.9 to 4.2 my bad cholesterol has gone down from 4.4 to 2.1 and my blood pressure has gone down from 193 over 106 (if i remember correctly) to 137 over 82. I still need to get both down a little lower so the doc is tweaking my medication but over all i'm in the safe levels now. Still feel no different after having the stent implanted but it was totally necessary. The human body is an amazing thing, i had a few things wrong with me which could have resulted in me having a heart attack at any time and i felt 100% normal. Glad i went in for a prostate check which turned out fine but found out all this other stuff which i needed to know about so i can live long enough to walk my daughter down the aisle.
