Social ⚔️ Palestine, Israel war.

Hearing that Egypt had alerted Israel of potential attacks they had intelligence of up to a year before it happened and obviously disregarded by Israel, I’m wondering why the Israeli people’s rage isn’t directed at their government more? Given how that seems odd in itself that it was disregarded and the extent of what Israel are doing to the Palestinian people on this scale, one has to wonder if Israel let the attack happen in order to gain justification for decimating the Palestinian people.

Not downplaying it but wouldn’t they have constant alerts of potential attacks from all over the place all the time?

If they got warnings but nothing happened for a year you could understand being caught by surprise.

Why was Egypts intelligence able to pick up on this and not Israel? I would have thought Israel would have some of the more advanced technology in the area to pick up on such a planned attack. Similar to america’s warning of 911 that has always had question marks around the attack and should have served as a lesson that if any terrorist cell has aggressive tendencies towards your country it probably pays to give it some attention. It’s lot like israel and hamas haven’t been at odds for some and this was a real possibility.

They probably did have intelligence that something was building.

But to put it in context they probably have 100’s of different reports of threats every week for decades from all different sources with most never coming to anything.

You can’t jump at shadows and they probably got complacent. Obviously they underestimated the threat and got caught out.

Dramatisation, it’s a bit like saying we should have stopped that nutter that stabbed people in a New Lynn? supermarket a couple of years ago where they even had a cop following them and knew he was unstable. You know the threats there. You know it might happen anytime, but how do you actually stop the actual strike when it’s somewhat unpredictable (even though you know it’s going to happen)?

Preemptive strike? Smash Hamas like the US did to Iraq ‘in case’ they have weapons of mass destruction? Would that have gone down well?

If they're legitimately Hamas fighters I don't have sympathy for them, but how would we ever know in the propaganda war. Sickening reports of the rapes coming out.

Could be true, but also I'm not sure much out of Israel is credible, beheaded babies was a hoax, babies in ovens hoax. Chat of Israeli Apache opening fire on both Hamas and fleeing civilians in vehicles. Tank operators opening fire on both Hamas and civilians. Dismantling and burying civilian vehicles destroyed in the fighting prior to any proper investigation. Israeli hostages during meeting with Benji said they were more scared of being killed by the IOF than Hamas.
Israel would say anything at this point to justify genocide.

I don't know either. Consensus seems to be Netanyahui's hard right encouraged Iran-backed jihadi Islamic Hamas as a counter to more socialist PLO after they had moderate Rabin assassinated, now it's biting them back, with innocents in Israel and occupied territories paying the price for Israeli manipulation. All a long game for ethnic cleansing? Don't know, seems like it now, with US complicity.

What's anyone else's take?

The other point that doesn't get enough coverage is the right of Palestinians to self defense and armed resistance in the face of oppression, occupation and apartheid. Add to that a near 20 year blockaded to Gaza.

In international law, the right to resist is closely related to the principle of self-determination.[9] It is widely recognized that a right to self-determination arises in situations of colonial domination, foreign occupation, and racist regimes that deny a segment of the population political participation. According to international law, states may not use force against the lawful exercise of self-determination, while those seeking self-determination may use military force if there is no other way to achieve their goals.

Breaking that last bit down.
States (Israel) may not use force against the lawful exercise of self-determination (by Palestinians), while those seeking self-determination (Palestinians) may use military force if there is no other way to achieve their goals.

But armed groups like Hamas seeking self determination, and just like the IDF, can’t indiscriminately or intentionally attack civilians. In breaking the ceasefire when Hamas attacked Israel and targeted civilians is just as guilty as Israel is in its targeting of civilians in its attacks on Gaza.
