He literally could just say - I'll come for my same contract at Penrith. But from the kindness of his heart goes low?

You seriously think the club that was trying to sign BHU for $700k would lowball the 3 x champ, golden boot, Kiwis Captain?

Like literally all the manager would need to do is name the salary and then deal would be done.
he doesnt have the leverage you think he does when he is home sick and want to go home. This isn't like Sydney or qld where there are multiple teams that someone could go to due to homesickness.

I also think the fact he wants basically a retirement package from us. This will see him through to 32 on a comfortable wicket and he may then choose to call it quits. If you get offered a long term deal the per year amount will be lower than a short term deal.

What if there is another secondary reason. What if JFH is an astute judge of Rugby leauge and thinks Panthers run due to salary cap is coming to an end and that we are higher on the power rankings. I know dumb comment but their dynasty can't go for ever and we are on the up surge.
Then he would indeed be a very astute judge.

He was extremely close with his grandfather, and JFH was back in NZ for his funeral in February. He spent a couple of weeks in NZ as was injured with his shoulder.

Complete guess work, but if he was already feeling a bit home sick. That's the sort of thing that could tip you over the edge.
I was of the understanding he's recently immersed himself into his Maori roots, and id imagine wanting to raise his family and kids with those connections around them is the main driver for the shift.

I watched a segment on him about a year or two ago on one of the Fox sports shows and it appeared he would spend a lot of time back in the Hokianga when he got the opportunity. Will be so much easier for him to do that now.

who says that? roosters have been doing it forever.

it seems the contract has been registered with the NRL other wise we would of heard about it
The NRL salary cap auditor thats who.

Also the salary cap is increasing each year of his contract also.

He would have an all time bad manager to supposedly sign $675k.

Let's focus on we'd all be wrapped to sign him for the same amount we had AFB contracted for.

You can't offer marquee players substantial less than market value. No matter where the club is located.

I'm just happy we signed him - but let's be realistic.
Isnt SJ on a substantially lower contract than he could be elsewhere? Broncos did it for years as do many clubs whose players want to stay together for longer. I know there is a rule, not sure exactly how limiting it is though.
