Before yesterday, I'd've said nowhere. He'd just be happy to be warming a (warmer) bench in Oz. SGI must be taking a look now.
He is a very handy back up half. May develop in to more with time but I could only really think of the dragons as an option of a chance of first grade time if he chose to move back to Australia

Todd Payten loves him a Warrior, once Townsend retires they could shift Dearden to 7 and chase Metcalf? Panthers will need to see who they replace Luai with? Could be a couple of options?

Cowboys is a good shout. Bit surprised the Panthers let Cogger go to be honest but they must have some better options coming through if they let him go? You would need a good controlling half to get the best out of Metcalf wherever he goes, if he goes IMO

I'm not concerned he is off contract. People make too much of the November 1st opening. It is handy to pick up someone early if you have a specific need or have your eye on someone. The Warriors with Tohu Harris for example. Most including the ones on your books you want to assess their attitude during training and during the season proper.

We have helped him with his hamstring issues last year. It sounds like the club has a plan to help him get his body to stand up to first grade and to help with his hamstring issues. The best the club can do is ensure they have a plan for him and select him when appropriate.

If it looks like there are chances for first grade opportunities here and he is happy in Auckland he will stay. If another club is desperate there may be more. Again like we have seen in the past when we are winning. Guys that come into the side look better and it also makes recruitment easier. Either retention or from external.

Those in the know...with Metcalf being off contract in November, if we were to offer him a contract would this have happened by now?

I don't know how it all works but I would assume if we wanted him we would have offered him something around November, does anyone know if that's happened, if he's said he wants to wait and see what else comes up?

I remember with CHT we offered him a contract late 21, and he said publically that he backed his skills once 2022 rolled around to get a bigger contract with us....so I just find it interesting that there's been nothing noted about Metcalf, surely he's had one or two offers or something from us

Ford and Berry were the other players off contract at the end of 2024 and they’ve been offered and accepted extensions. Really hard to say with Metcalf?

You would assume either he wants to leave or we don't want him (or currently not for the money he is wanting)

Reality is that last season he was used in first grade after SJ, TMM, Walker, Volkmann. He was a handy back up half who will get hls opportunities this season, IMO through other players getting injured. I struggle to see many NRL clubs where he would be signed to that would give him a first grade role in the halves. It might be that the disparity if where the club see him and where he sees himself are currently to far apart to agree to a contract that both parties are happy with. Could also be something else happening in the background with other signings being lined up for future seasons

Yeah but he wasn’t available to start the season after impressing in the tigers trial- if he hadn’t been injured there’s every chance he starts round one ahead of tmm- we’ll never know I guess but he definitely wasn’t 5th in line.

Fair. But if he was potentially first choice starting 6 it's interesting that he hasn't been resigned yet.

Maybe the club are waiting to see how far he can get his hamstrings through the season.
