NRL NRL on Sky

I had a quick look and don't think there's a new Sky TV thread on the new forum.

There's a Black Friday deal at the moment to get a year's subscription for $299 ($25 a month)
Code is BLACKFRIDAY23
I have an existing subscription which expires in June next year and I've been able to add it on top 😀

That is so much drastically cheaper than having regular sky via a sky box.
I literally only have sky for the sports.

How do people find Sky Sports Now? I'm guessing there is no Sky Sports Now app...

I got Sky Sports Now because I only really used Sky for Sports and so I can watch on any device. Kids and wife generally end up using the TV's for Play Station or movies or something while there is some sport I want to watch. It has an app so its all good.

Only issues I have found so far are during the cricket world cup there was a couple of times that the coverage/stream dropped off my phone and I had to restart the app - only happened for one of the NZ games but was annoying and happened several times during the innings. Also I have a firestick for my older Panasonic TV and it can have trouble logging on to the app at times, usually because I've been watching sport then switch to Disney or Netflix and then try and go back in to sports.

Other than those, which are minor but annoying issues I think its good. I like the on demand content, particularly highlights packages, you can watch live or from the start if you missed any of the first half for example, and the fact I can watch on any device wherever I am.

We like Sky .We watch most of the sports particularly NRL and Racing. 3 Chanels now.
We also like Discovery programs often when nothing interesting on TV.
I'm paying $73.98 a month but generally only watch Sky for the sport or the odd huge event TV show on Soho.
I like the convenience of just turning on the TV and its there - but getting really hard to justify the extra expense each month given this current deal.

The kids don't watch terrestrial tv at all.

If there is an sky sports now app for samsung tv's I might make the change...

$887.76 per year
VS this deal at $299

I’ve never had normal sky, so can’t really compare, but I don’t have any major issues with Sky Sports Now. They have an app which works fine (although the browser view has more options available, like multi-view channels)

I've heard the online stream is 10 sec or more behind the actual live broadcast.

And curious how the HD tv broadcast translates to streaming.

But definitely think its time to make the switch

You should be able to get a free weeks trial if you want to check it out before deciding.

I've been doing the big negation with Sky on my account.
They are hoping keep me on terrestrial with a discount making it $47.22 for the next 12 months.

i think i pay $120ish a month and have done for years. i think ive had at the very least regular sky for 20 years.

surely they owe me a little discount by now, ha.

Call the 0800 get to an operate and ask to go through to the retention team.

Tell them you are seriously considering leaving to take up the Sky Sport Now black Friday offer of $299 (ends Monday 11.59pm)
They'll want to keep you on normal account.

rad!
thanks so much bro.

If you are not beholden to terrestrial - get a chromecast and get Sky Sport Now.

The chromecast is $60. The best part about using Sky Sport Now is that you can watch recent programmes at your leisure. So if there is a late night game, you can just watch it the next day. Or if you miss the start, you can watch the game from the beginning. And there is plenty of saved content available on the app.

It actually has better functionality than terrestrial

You might be referring to this, but get a Chromecast with Google TV. They're awesome

Sky Sport is also an app on quite a few of the newer TVs also - they list these on the sky sport now website.

I'm still deciding on if I take the deal or go with Sky Sport - I hate the idea of the app dropping out and also being delayed slightly from the actual live broadcast.

The benefit of the chromecast is that it is a cheap way to keep up to date with streaming software and apps. The downfall of smart TV's is that the software they run apps on becomes obsolete quickly, while the TV itself is still perfectly fine.

So by only spending $60 every few years on chromecasts, you don't need to upgrade the TV every 5 years just to keep it running apps.

On top of that, TV manufacturers underinvest in their smart platforms

The app is slightly better than skygo. It isn't perfect. I'd imagine it would be a year or two away from ironing out the kinks. The trick I've found is to load up the app a few minutes before you want to start watching
