You've got to wonder if one way to speed up this post-election waiting time is that every electorate where the candidate voting margin is less than 100 votes automatically gets recounted unless the candidate who came second advises the Electoral Commission not to within 24 hours of the Special Votes being counted. Still have it available for a candidate to ask for a recount if the margin is more than 100 votes but they have only 24 hours and not 4-5 days to request a recount and increase the fee required for a recount.

I get trying to get as many people as possible to vote.
Election day registration seems to be a huge problem with the results being delayed.
Sorry if you haven't bothered to register until Election day bad luck.

35.5 days is the average time to form a government post election in the MMP era.

With Winston ... the average is 48

It’s pretty obvious that the support of David Parker comes with a wealth tax or CGT.

Sounds like the overseas buyers tax will be taken away by NZFirst and ACT which will be a good out for National. What affect that will have on the level of tax cuts or changes will be interesting. Also sounds like NZFirst and ACT are on a similar page when it comes to the Treaty. There won't be a referendum but expect a 'reset' according to Shane Jones

Finally getting to meet in person today in Auckland after Winnie was a no show in Wellington yesterday.
Also Act & NZF ganging up which in itself is weird.

The election has been a shambles. Seems many special votes are never checked, many could have been fraudulent and it may have changed the makeup of the whole government. Wow:

In 2020, the Jacinda Ardern-led Government enacted election-day enrolment. Now, on election day, with no proof of ID or address, anyone can sign a declaration, enrol, and vote.

It is impossible to check the eligibility of electors whose names and addresses are secret until after they have voted.

There are over a quarter of a million adults in New Zealand who are not eligible to vote: visa-holders, tourists, foreign students and overstayers among them. Only citizens and permanent residents may vote, and only for the electorate where they live.

It is likely that National candidates in Nelson, Te Atatū and Mt Albert who narrowly lost after the special vote count won more valid votes. It is likely that Peeni Henare and Kelvin Davis really won Tamaki Mākaurau and Te Tai Tokerau.

There is no other country that lets people with no ID enrol and vote on election day. We are the only country where 20.9 per cent of the total votes cast are special votes.

No one knows how many of the 603,257 special votes are fraudulent.

The shift of a handful of votes could change the election result. The Green Party received one-third of their votes from specials, which boosted the number of Green MPs. The special votes decreased National’s MP count by two. Special votes enabled Te Pāti Māori to win two electorates. It is possible that if only valid ballots were counted, National and Act together won the election.

We need to know whether election-day enrolment is empowering participation in democracy, or whether election-day enrolment is destroying the integrity of our elections.

Seeing as Bruce’s theories tended to be aimed at the left, I think it’s only right I assume the mantle of reporting rumours regarding the right.

I'm loathe to say it - but a journalist who works at stuff mentioned to me they're working on a story that, one of the leaders in the coalition negotiations has been sending inappropriate messages to woman over social media.
