looks like Big Willie might become accountable shortly

Wow! Green MP’s recently have been sacked for lesser level bullying!

Willie is powerful within Labour. And I think it’s gone to his head.

I get what you’re saying however I kind of argue the opposite in that if we don’t start paying decent coin then we won’t attract quality people to run the country. Where’s the incentive for quality people to switch currently? All it’s attracting is narcissists and idiots.

Significantly up the pay and significantly reduce the number of them. And switch back to FPP & increase the election cycle to 4 years while we’re at it.
When everything in society is a result of their decisions, I’d rather see a more performance based situation of some kind. I’ve advocated plenty that the whole system is flawed and have always had the viewpoint we have opposition politics because it’s a diversion away from the outcomes. We go between each party thinking there will be a change but largely get served up something similar. I’ve also always viewed it as a calling type occupation like a teacher or health care professional. When everyone else has to prove their worth in their job, I don’t see them as any different. They work for us at the end of the day and we pay their salaries

I don’t care for the current government at all, can’t stand the leader. However I do believe they’re superior to the previous mob. It’s unfortunate the bar is set so low. But putting all that aside, no one should be upset that the cycle is turning. However it all takes time, it will pivot slowly… just as it did when the economy soured, which is why both the current & previous governments need to take blame for what has played out. But geez I put the RB as the single biggest contributor to our recession.
I feel National just assumed the economy would be better by now, based on reserve bank predictions and they would coast to the next election. They got lazy and it’s bitten them.

Similar to Labour, they have pushed heavy policy changes, hoping once the economy was good everyone would move on positively into the next election. That’s backfired and the changes have become a lightning rod to a grumpy electorate.

Despite all that, National are 1000% better than the alternative. Making slow but steady changes for the better that will pay off for years to come (rather than crippling us for years as Labour did).

I believe a fault is that our democracy is exposed during economic shock. Govt need to spend several years with very little policy changes so people and business have some consistency to navigate through tough times.

However politics and 3 year cycles mean politicians force changes on us while they have the power and opportunity.

labour and National have both done it. The example of school principals resigning from the stress and constant change doesn’t need to happen.

5 years of shit with Covid and the worst recession in 30 years has taken its toll.

What’s happened is democracy has become to capitalist heavy in my view

Maybe. Think it’s more there is little resilience in people and the economy for constant changes. labour and now National have both tried to be transformational… in a severe economic recession on top of a once in a century pandemic (with all the stress and emotional damage).

Another example: The stats on the number of people that can’t afford a car WOF is simply staggering. There is real poverty out there. Now they have bought in cars that drive down streets, read number plates and give tickets electronically if you don’t have a WoF

Right policy, badly wrong timing. Just going to nail people that are already down and out.

Poor economic management

How do you get that?

"Corporate tax and other individuals' tax revenue were both below forecast (by $0.3 billion and $0.2 billion, respectively) driven by weaker than expected provisional tax, partly offset by stronger-than-forecast terminal tax," Treasury said.

‘Net debt was lower than expected at $186.5b’

As the article says, a mixed bag.

farkin' hell it's been a grim year! Plus the price of eye fillet costs more than half a tank of gas!
Driving Lower cow numbers her hectare, converting prime land to tree, cow taxes, farmers protesting in the cities recently…

Are we shocked this has resulted in higher prices and made it unaffordable for the middle class?
