Recruitment Warriors 2026/2027 Recruitment & Retention

NZWarriors.com

Im about the make the exact type of post i cringe at when others write them haha.
I feel the team needs some star power. I wish we could open the cheque book and through some overs at a marque player. Depth is great but there seems to be a lack of X factor players in the squad who can turn a game.
Of course these players are thin on the ground and rarely want to come to NZ.
Someone like Tapine would be ideal. (let a man dream)

Also, does anyone else feel the tide is changing a bit as far as players wanting to play for the Warriors? The public perception of the team seems to be changing and rather being a place you go to squeeze one last decent pay cheque. Its a place where you can improve as a player and even have a small shot at a title.

I don't think we lack star power.

When I look at our strongest 17, the below I feel would be considered stars and would be signed by just about every team in the comp if given the opportunity.

1.
2. RTS
3.
4.
5.
6.
7. Metcalf
8. JFH
9.
10. Barnett
11. Halasima
12.
13. Clark

14.
15. Vaimauga
16.
17.

Our biggest battle is keeping them all on the field.

I think we need a ball playing fullback but that is less necessary if Metcalf is fit. I find myself agreeing with arguments that if you swapped Dylan Edwards and CNK in our side in the last half of the season, Edwards would look bog average in our team.

Always been a huge Burton fan- would fizz if we signed him.
On a more realistic level Will Kennedy could be a good fit.

Wonder if there are rumors of where he is going, would be a good fit for a couple of years to see if any young ones step up or marquee pop up

I still think we are good with TMM or TT just people with decent speed, not injury prone and can distribute with our forwards dominance. Cognitive dissonance with Team Webby I guess

Edwards have been pretty meh for a couple of months now, we should have rolled them if our centres are not made of glass and a fullback who knows how to pass

I would also personally forgo the expense, extra top thirty spot, drama etc and just put Taine back at Fullback. However Webby does not really rate Taine as he can't pump out the PCMS like Charnze can. A massive part of our game plan is the kick returns and hit ups by our back three. Dallin RTS and CNK (on a good day) are elite at it and must even be the best in the comp at it.

Why on earth would Dogs let him go?
No room at the Inn?

Lachie Galvin at 6 and Burton is a 6. Burton on too much money to be a centre? Dogs already have two good centres?
All a bit odd.

Burton is on a massive contract, and the reality is without his big boot he is generally a pretty uncreative 6. They now have Galvin, who clearly is a 6 and needs a controlling 7. Burton and Galvin don't fit, and you don't pay a centre $900k+.

I would take him, easy upgrade on CHT and I think he would compliment Metcalf nicely. But wouldn't happen. He'll be a great signing for Perth IMO, I hope he goes there. But if it's true they want Munster, then I can't see that working.

From what I’ve seen Burton is Perth’s second choice five eighth behind Munster, I think Munster is the marquee they’re after? Interesting with Braith Anasta managing both Munster and Pezet, you’d imagine he knows what all their next moves will be. Saw that raiders were keen on Pezet on a loan deal, which would make sense with Bellamy and Ricky Stuart good mates, but now it’s come out that Pezet wants $900k, whether that’s just next year is hard to say as he’s essentially a free agent?

can we afford 900k for a FB? Get some freight from Gus
I would pony up $900K. Would prefer $700K for him. You have to think the rumoured other team are either Knights who seem to throw money at any spine player who comes along or Perth.

I’d say Burton would be picked ahead of Xerri who IMHO is about the same level and effectiveness as Pompey. Slightly quicker.
Unless they need to shift a player or two for cap purposes because of Goulds “My Ever Changing Moods”.
Who can name the band who released that great 80s vinyl album without cheating.
Correct answer gets a cheap penalty early in the game if I am refereeing your local team.
Song not album of it is who I am thinking of

Apparently manly are interested in Adam Elliot and Jack Hetherington. With Adam O Brien going there, seems like he might take a couple with him that the knights were looking to offload anyway
