A lot of good times growing up watching 80s WWF.

A lot of debate over the years if the WWF would have got as big with someone else as the main star. They probably still would have been big enough to close off the territories. But it may have taken longer to find a big star. It was hard enough replacing Hulk Hogan.

Hulk Hogan with his larger than life physique and personality was the perfect guy for them to launch their expansion.

Even after his drawing power wasn't great in the 90s with WCW as people got sick of the red and yellow babyface. He manged to turn himself around to one of the biggest heels in the business.

Hogan vs Andre was massive when I was a kid. Then Hogan vs Warrior which divided the school classroom.

Great days to be a kid!

Damn, the immortal Hulk Hogan is no more

Like many of you, became a massive wrestling fan in the late 80s, and Hulk was a big part of how WWF became global to reach us in the first place. Then as a teenager seeing him re-emerge as a massive heel with the nWo was kind of mind-blowing, especially when WCW actually came on TV2 in 1997 as the whole WCW vs nWo thing was kicking into high gear.

Regardless of what you think of his politics, or other scandals he's been embroiled in, still has massive respect for being an icon in an industry that has captivated me most of my life. RIP, brother.

Weirdly enough, just found out going through 2025 celebrity deaths article that Rick Derringer (who sang Real American, as well as the kickass Demolition theme) also passed away earlier this year which I missed.

Very sad day. Great tributes coming through from his former wrestling buddies - Brutus gutted they didn’t sort their shit out before he died, stubborn bastards, they went back so far together, inexcusable!

As Wiz said, love or hate him, what he did for the WWE and Wrestling in general can't be overstated.
A legend that at times hung around too long and buried a few careers along the way, but still a legend with moments burnt into mainstream collective memories and childhoods.

Both him and the Macho Man being gone now is really a crazy thing for showing how old we are.

Rip to Hulk Hogan a legend and on the Mt Rushmore for WWE greats his match against The Rock at Wrestlemania 18 is arguably one of the greatest matches ever had the crowd on a string that night “He beat Andre the Giant with that move”

Pretty stupid of him to live stream the incident and all of the buildup to it where he was talking about what he wanted to do.

The incident that caused it was pretty harmless with the Psycho Stu guy throwing a worked bunch thinking he was a wrestler. He then apologised. One of the owners apparently told Raja Jackson he could get his receipts in later, and if someone stepped in, they would back him up.

Then you have the referee whose job is to protect the wrestlers. Watch out for the crowd (the run in was planned), check if the ring is safe, watch out for injuries. Ideally he should have tackled Jackson like an MMA ref. At least buy some time for some help to make it to the ring.

That organisation was affiliated with the WWE as a training school. Say goodbye to that funding.

Saw an interesting video interview with the guy that ended up pulling him off the guy - didn't mince words about how he felt about the organisation and other wrestlers standing by to let it happen, let alone the actions of Raja himself.

Sounds like a lot of terrible decisions all round led to this dumb incident.

All I can say America as a society is fucked. And it’s only going to get worse… even these guys are oblivious to their own passive aggressive behaviours trying to pull on peoples coat strings.. I very much doubt the kids watching at the show could tell the difference between a real punch and a fake one…. I doubt they were traumatised as they came to watch violence as a form of entertainment
