No doubt, that would require you to have faith in Metcalf.

I just think its time for the club to commit. We have the team and the cap to make a 3 year play for our spine. I dont see a better 6&7 rocking up and playing better before the start of the 2026 season.
If we don't lock these guys soon someone will come knocking.
I was the one who originally mentioned 1m but only in the light of D Brown getting 1.3m
Expansion is just around the corner and teams will have a blank chegue book with halves being the starting point. Guys like TMM and Boyd will be chased also.

I think we have a bit of time to get a better gauge on Metcalf before we decide to throw the bank at him. There’s still questions about his durability given that he only played 19 games in the two previous seasons.

The signs are looking promising, there’s been an improvement in his decision making and he’s more decisive in what he’s doing. Mistakes don’t seem to ruffle him.

All the same I’d prefer to wait until the season finishes before looking to resign him.
Get the feeling Metcalf is SJ’s project? There’s little things in his game emerging all the time that I see 2023 SJ. Most notably the belief and willingness to back himself, that confidence has won us a game or two so far. I think we need to be careful letting him get to November, and CHT for that matter if we genuinely see them as our future but as a million dollar player you need a bigger sample

Its also a sign of confidence. Its saying okay, you two are our guys, we are trusting you to win us the comp.

For the first time in over a decade our premiership window is looking to be open again, we dont want to fluff about whether the guy who is winning games at 70% is good enough.

If we're not paying SJ to be mentoring Metcalf, what the hell are we doing?

SJs got an incredible game brain.

Unfortunately as you know Frank this is NZ.
We don't get nice things 😕
2nd harbor bridges or downtown Stadiums.
Not to mention Ferries and power supplies etc etc.
I have great optimism for the rest of this season but after that Umm

Same thing was said after 2023 with a premiership window.

Don't forget to upgrade Kosi winning at 100% 😉

All I'm saying is there is still a long way to go in the season and that a million dollar upgrade for next season doesn't seem appropriate.

That’s why I’ve said from the start moderate increases with goals in his contract is where I’m at. I’d be happy to give a million towards the backend of the contract provided goals have been met. Not sure what goals you could incorporate? But the goal is a premiership and injuries have been a problem in the past. Backend deals aren’t the go but to start at $850k and go up from there with all going right I’d be happy with
Ok……

If it came down to paying him 1 million or letting him leave……..

1. Would you let him walk?
2. If yes……. Now what?

(Obviously, if we can get him cheaper than yeah, do it. That’s just not the way it typically works. Especially not for the Warriors. Especially not with Australian players)
