CHT has been holding the pairing together IMO so far this season. I think he is hugely underrated or certainly not getting the acknowledgement he deserves. I also thought Metcalf had his best half of football last night on the back of our dominance, cowboys errors and their defensive issues. If he can continue to build on that, particularly when he doesn't have everything in his favour, and be more consistent we will be in a good space. Talk about giving him $1mil a season based on that is a bit over the top though IMO.

A good half of football= give him a million. If he turns up for the whole game next week against the dragons then we will have seen good progress.
Not saying give him a Million.
However the comparison with Brown is something his manager will be considering.

Webby said himself that Metcalf is starting to add what he as coach thought he was missing. He thought Metcalf was focusing entirely on guiding the team (understandably when new to the role) and not looking to play positive football.

In the last couple of weeks, Metcalf has been looking to play ball and run, which has made a massive, massive improvement to how dangerous this team can be. His unforced error (our only one of the first half) was a positive error, and should be encouraged. He doesn't strike me as the Reece Walsh type who is going to force something on every play at a speed too fast for his brain, Metcalf seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

But my absolutely favourite part of his game last night was the sheer amount of times he was there to back up. He was like an elite fullback, popping up in all parts of the field for an offload or an opportunity. Man that is exciting. If we can acquire another player who can do that too, we will cut teams to shreds. I've also been pleasantly surprised by his defence.

As far as keeping him - he seems a pretty unassuming guy. He has his opportunity and he seems settled. Auckland is not a bad place to raise a family. If we treat him and his contract with respect he could well see a long-term place for himself here.

The cultural circles that AFB, Walsh, Walker etc. live in would be quite different to the Barnett, Capewell, Metcalf and Egan circles I'd imagine. Not every one needs the bright lights of a big city nightlife.

What I love about Metcalf is that dog in him

He’s not afraid to take hit ups or put his body on the line. Always trying to support a player or covering a man.

Doesn’t go into a shell when he makes a mistake or misses kicks. You can’t coach this attitude. It’s instinctive.

And sorry to hate on you SJ, but Metcalf has shown all the attributes you were missing to be a legend..

So do you pay him now or do you say let’s park this silly talk of contract negotiations and just focus on winning ??? If I am Webby I’m selling the view if they continue to win, everyone wins, everyone’s stock will go up, the players the fans the country … trust the process and reap the rewards when it’s time…

No need to start negotiating and risk creating disharmony in the group.. look at how much a distraction CNK’s contract negotiations were .., if I am Webby do we talk $$$ now????

No thanks. 🙂↔️

He's almost playing a hybrid role atm, its not the number 7 classical game manager. Thought it was very noticeable in the opposition 20 he was playing mostly 2nd receiver, getting the ball wider off either Chanel or Clarke.....it was almost like a typical standoff......bit wider of the ruck running at space and a free liscence to support across the park.....noticeable Chanel did a lot more kicking on the last as well.....certainly appears to be that interchange of roles Webster was alluding to pre season......its been clunky but 8 games in hopefully we're starting to see signs of it gelling now.

I think half the time they don’t know what they’re talking about with the Warriors though other than Matt, just the cliches 😂
Warriors certainly getting more exposure on these types of shows. Reynolds saying CHT is playing second fiddle to him, so interesting seeing people saying CHT’s stats showing his strong input. Seem to be spreading the load across each other and complementing each others game well

My concern would be to do we continue with his goal kicking and wait for it to come good?
I think the fact they don't give the goal kicking to taine, shows they see him as a back up player. As from what I've seen, he's a better goal kicker
Interesting watching Matt Johns show hearing them talk about how vocal Metcalf is. I really thought he was more reserved, great to hear
I heard a few posters who have attended previous games mention he's much more vocal, just not noticeable on TV.

Great comment, agree.

I feel like if u could lock up both metcalf and cht for under 1.5 that would give u a good halves combo while leaving plenty of freedom in the cap to build a side around them.
yeah i dont know what you'd pay CHT, he does many things well, but nothing (apart from tackling) is that eye catching or exciting that teams would really try steal him away.

800 and 500 and your probably away and laughing for those two.
