General Warriors Harold Matthews 2025

Some real talent coming through in our pathways - exciting to see! Back-to-back is an incredible result! Well done to the boys, TJ and the club 🙌

Bishop Neal stepped up big time today - it is what you want to see from players like him, getting up for the big games. They missed Hansen, but Ioka filled in admirably. Lemana looks like he will have a big future if he continues this trajectory too. Will be great to see some of these guys step up to SG Ball next year - I wonder if they would give some of the more developed kids (like Neal) a game or two in Flegg this year.

This win was better than last years IMO. Down by 12 in the first half and down again by 4 in the second half, the turning point was the (only) backs try to put them up 16-14. In hindsight, it looked like the Knights front loaded their effort and faded late as a resuit. The starting props back in the last quarter put the nail in the coffin and they both scored.

It’s true that a power game alone won’t win you a ball or flegg title. Not having a team in the Laurie Daley Cup (u18s) makes the transition harder. Last years winning team haven’t played together as a team this year. The core of the Knights side that lost yesterday will have played in the clubs reps u16, u17, u18 and u19 sides by the time some of their players start pushing for 1st grade spots. The Panthers success shows what bringing juniors through together can do. We’re missing that I think but it’s early days for the junior pathways program. Back to back wins goes a long way to building a culture of success. Next years team could be better, especially with the whole bench and starting winger back again.
