Social Wrighty's Player Agent Rules Baselined

Actually that’s a false accusation. Steve Rogers kicked plenty of goals.
502 to be exact in his NRL career. With your permission I am going to add to the guidelines you should attempt to get a goalkicker. Even a respectable part timer will work. You should have pointed that out last year and you might have gotten even more votes as somebody said in their evaluations that you didn't have a goal kicker. I think there should be some sort of goal kicker in your starting 13.

Pretty certain I did point it out at the time.

  • The goal is to acquire the best team of 17 you can – you can have as many in your squad as you like. Feel free to develop your own strategy here. Please try and make a well balanced teams with each position filled with someone who played there. Don't forget to include a gaol kicker.

Quick Summary of the Rules

(Full rules available in the opening post.)

1. Eligible Players

  • Any player who appeared in NRL first grade in 2025 (including bench & 18th man who got on the field).
  • OR any player from the Hodges Agency Stable (Top 50 NRL era + 20 extra legends).
  • Taumalolo removed from the Stable due to 2025 NRL appearances.

2. Format

  • 12 players + Chris Hodges.
  • 12 rounds, each with an open auction.
  • Each round has a Roundmaster who chooses the round’s letter(s) and receives a bonus budget:
    • Rounds 1–8: +$400K
    • Rounds 9–11: +$500K
    • Round 12: +$600K
  • Bonus money cannot roll forward.

3. Using Letters

Each round allows bidding only on players whose last names begin with the Roundmaster’s chosen letter group.
Available letter groups (each can only be used once):

  1. B
  2. M
  3. T
  4. C
  5. F
  6. H
  7. S
  8. G, E & A
  9. L & K
  10. P & I
  11. J & R
  12. N, O, D, Y, U, V & W

Source of truth for spelling = Rugby League Project.

4. Budget & Bidding

  • Each manager starts with $15 million.
  • Minimum bid = $200K, increases in $10K increments.
  • You cannot bid more than your remaining balance.
  • You must make at least one bid per round, unless using your one skip.
  • You may stop bidding once you have 17 players or run out of minimum-bid money.
  • NEW RULE: Only two bids per individual player per manager.

5. Squad Building

  • Aim for a balanced 17-man team with players in their real positions.
  • Make sure you have a goal kicker.
  • You may carry as many players as you like above 17.

6. Auction Timing

  • Bidding runs during the day.
  • Thread locks at a random time between 5:30–6:00 pm, known only to Chris Hodges.
  • Get bids in early to avoid being locked out.

7. Hodges Agency Penalties

Selecting a Hodges player may trigger a penalty such as:

  • Fines to keep a disgruntled player
  • Reduced bidding ability in the next round
  • Forced draft pick
  • Forced lineup change
  • Other “Tajhay-powered” surprises

Penalties apply Rounds 1–11 only.

You may refuse a Hodges ultimatum — but lose the player, get your money refunded, and the player goes into next day’s draft where you may not bid.

8. Discipline & Sportsmanship

  • 3 infractions = disqualification.
  • A “green card” can erase one infraction for great sportsmanship.
  • Keep composure even if randomness hits you.

9. End of Game Voting

  • After Round 12, all teams enter a voting thread.
  • The community ranks the best team of the draft.

10. Other Rules

  • No PMs.
  • No collusion.
  • No trades.
  • Wrighty moderates; his rulings are final.
  • Two $10K minimum bid meme players are eligible (Tony Williams & Sione Katoa only).

I am thinking about changing the minimum bid from $200K for any player to $150K for NRL 2025 players and $250K for Hodges stable players.
However the rules are supposed to be baselined and I feel having two minimums makes the game complex and makes it harder to learn the rules. Thoughts??

I quite like that although remember the additional risk of buying a Hodges player

I’m sick man, not sure I have the ability to unpack anything
I think I understand your point. You are saying the Hodges stable already has additional considerations before a price premium is placed on them. I personally think 150/250 is better for several reasons but am worried about making the game confusing.

I remember after the last game saying maybe the minimum bids should’ve been set higher- can’t recall my reasoning though
I tend to think keeping it the same for both categories is the way to go- can’t see any of Hodges stable going for under half a mill anyway so not gonna make much difference what u set that at.

OK. Last time the minimum was $100K so it a big increase this time to $200k. Let's leave it at $200K for both.
