New Zealand Warriors' coach, Andrew Webster, has finally spoken up about the circulating rumours of the club's reported offer to an overseas Super League player. News of the Warriors tabling a three-year contract for Leeds Rhinos forward, Morgan Gannon, had been making rounds in the rugby community. If the rumours were true, Gannon would begin his tenure with the Warriors in 2026 and continue till the end of 2028.

Gannon, who has played over 50 Super League matches and made one appearance for the England Knights, has been catching attention for his remarkable performance in the limited matches this year. This young talent's rise in the rugby world comes after a year-long hiatus in 2024 to recover from concussions. His contract with the Leeds Rhinos is set to expire at the end of 2025.

The 21-year-old primarily plays in the back row or at lock, following in the rugby footsteps of his father, Jim Gannon. Jim had a successful career playing for several teams, including the Huddersfield Giants and Hull Kingston Rovers, after his 22 matches for the Balmain Tigers from 1998-99.

Webster, however, neither confirmed nor denied the truth behind these rumours. He jokingly commented on the frequency of such baseless rumours involving player transfers to the Warriors. "I always laugh when someone comes up with the most unbelievably wrong rumour about a player coming to our club," stated the coach. He further clarified that the club prefers to announce recruitment news only when it has been finalised.

These rumours have not only caught the attention of the Warriors' fans but also the coaching staff of Leeds Rhinos. Brad Arthur, the team's current head coach, believes that Gannon will choose to extend his contract with the Rhinos in 2026. "He's contracted this year, and Bleasy is working with his management to extend his deal," Arthur commented.

Arthur also revealed that Gannon appreciates what the club has done for him and has indicators of wanting to continue playing for the Rhinos. Although he acknowledged that Gannon might harbor aspirations to play in the NRL someday, he believes that the young player understands he still has a long way to go in his development.

This piece of news has garnered mixed reactions from the users on the NZWarriors.com forum, reflecting the general sentiment amongst the fans. While some believe this potential recruitment could benefit the Warriors, others are skeptical about the rumours.

With the current team standings and the win-loss record of the Warriors, fans are eagerly waiting for any official announcements regarding the club's recruitment plans. For now, they can only speculate and discuss the potential impact of having a player like Gannon on the team.
