Social Wrighty's Player Agent Game

Inglis has to be under Slater.
In this game so far:

Smith $5m
Johns $4.27m
Thurston $4m
Johnson $4m
Lockyer $3.35
Cleary $3.3m
Marshall $3.2m
Cronk $3.05m
Jones $3m
Slater $3m
Inglis $3m
SBW $2.78m
Haas $2.6m
Walsh $1.95m

Clearly spine players and mainly halfbacks have the most value. That’s why Meninga can be immortal in his position but not get the recognition as a game changer. Fullbacks are also a step below halfbacks.

Great news and really happy for you and your family. Wrighty!

Just a head up that Hodges likes inflicting punishment… I still have the bruises!

There’s rampant rumours that he’s a sadomasochist and has his own dungeon in his basement 😱

1. Smith
2. Slater
3. Lockyer/Johns/Thurston

That's how I see it. I can't split the last 3.

Smith is easily the least naturally talented of the 5 but the most effective taking everything into account.

Slater was an absolute freak, the most naturally talented.

Lockyer/Johns/Thurston are all big game clutch players. It doesn't matter how many awards they have or haven't won those 3 are the best halves of the modern game and ranking them in any order is just a matter of opinion.

My favourites of the 5 are Slater and Lockyer.

I’d throw Fittler into that group as well. He had some epic battles with Joey

This has got me thinking. We need to sort this!

I’m going to do a forum poll on the greatest recent player 1995 to today.

I’m proposing:

Smith
Johns
Thurston
Slater
Fittler
Lockyer
Cleary added (edit)

Any other options?

Cronk, Inglis and Marshall next level down?

Can’t argue with that top 5 I think it’s spot on. Maybe Lockyer’s place in top 5 is most under threat by the likes of Inglis, Cronk, Fittler and maybe the likes of Cleary and Walsh will challenge for a spot in the in the top 5 in the future once their careers wind down… but one thing I must say is hands down Greg Inglis is the most naturally gifted rugby league player I have ever seen. The young G.I at the storm was on a level athletically I don’t think will ever be matched.

Cleary definitely needs to be included, but it would be good to see him perform away from the Panthers. Next tier down I would include Inglis, Cronk, Tedesco. Too soon for Walsh but he could surpass the lot.

Agree with what you guys have said.

These guys all have to be in the mix - Smith, Slater, Johns, Thurston, Lockyer, Fittler, Inglis, Jones, Cronk, Marshall, Walsh.

Stacey Jones is the most underrated of those options (and not just because I have him in my team)
It is so hard to judge players from different eras though.

edit - Cleary is in there as well. But again hard to judge him outside of the Panthers system.

Actually for balance, Haas & peak Taumalolo need to be on any short list as well I think.
I’ll add but feel they are next level down. Forwards really struggle as they don’t directly win matches as often? More for the purest.

I’m the same on athletically gifted players. If that’s the criteria fluff like Ben Barba comes into the equation. Slater I add extra value to as he changed the fullback role.

That’s it. Some players aren’t just good they change the game.

Slater within the fullback role
Cam smith on leadership and decision making
Thurston with competitiveness
Johns with his vision
Inglis raw power
Cronk with his structure

Be interesting to see a poll by position taking only NRL form in to consideration. Get a good indication of best NRL halfback, fullback, hooker etc.
That would be a week of polls 😅 we’re trying to find the top 3 or 4 players ever. How do you compare a fullback to a halfback? All down to personal opinion, but would be interesting to know!

I’d argue Meninga had it over Inglis for raw power & was the better centre. But different era.
