this thread seems premature. If we keep playing the way we have the last 2 weeks, we will have more games that are worthy for this discussion.

Its a bye week - and no ones gonna remember the finer details of both these great matches end of the season so might as well document it while its still fresh in my head....

A big moment to in the progression of the club. We had a great season last year but were aware that we need to be getting over the top echelon of teams in the comp. We were an amazing play away from getting over the storm early in the season and were unfortunately well outplayed against the roosters, but they’ve finally shown themselves that they can foot it against the best in the panthers. The adversity they faced just made it sweeter

Vs Dolphins

4mins Dolphins score off Warriors mistake - after a great opening set by the Warriors, Dolphins return service with a equally good set except they overcook the 5th tackle kick and the ball goes dead in goal. DWZ takes the zero tackle and on 1st tackle Ed Kosi loses the ball with a lose carry.

Dolphins get the ball on 30m line and start their attack. 5th tackle they go wide, Pompey pushes in on the dummy runner and Katoa passes to a looping Nikorima who draws in Montoya and Issako goes into the score in the corner….

4-11mins - No frills- Both teams get through their sets with no errors or breaks.

I noticed CHT playing at DH on the right while Roache covered the left.

#23 MGT looked real solid. Even Ed Kosi took some solid hit ups. Everyone was getting stuck into their tackles and hitting hard with the ball. They all looked very busy with good body language and vibes. Real good to see Niukore our enforcer back pairing with Barnett. Geeze I’m missed this guy!

12mins - Warriors survive - 5th tackle Warriors run wide to Kosi who kicks the ball straight into Bostock who collects and gets pulled down at 30m line. Warriors struggle to get back and Dolphins get a repeat set. They go wide to the right to Issako who is pushed out to touch 5m from the try line. Good scrambling D from the boys.

Roache is off - Lussick on.

14min - 40/20 from Mammals

Dolphins hot on attack. They attack the left. Herby Farmboy gets close. 5th tackle kick Bunty knocks on and Dolphins get another set.

16 min - phins score - They go left again, Aitken offloads and Herby magically swerves through multiple defenders to score under the post. Yeah not too bad farmboy….

Dolphins 10-0 after 18mins

20mins - CHT scores! - 5th tackle, TMM bombs, Montoya competes and catches the ball offloading to a flying CHT who scores!!! Warriors on the board !

Warriors 6 : 10 Dolphins

25 mins - Mammals score again! Herby makes a good break with Tabuai Fidow in support and Dolphins score under the sticks

Warriors 6: 16 Dolphins

32mins - TMM scores!!!

Individual brilliance in seeing a half gap and just going for it

A couple of missed chances by Montoya and Kosi and we go into half time with ascendency like the Penrith game

Warriors 12-16 Dolphin HT

What impressed me about this half is the boys never dropped heads. It was a continuous wave of energy by everyone. Collectively as a group they didn’t cave.

That being said, didn’t think this half was anywhere as exciting as the Penrith game. That game so much happening. Injuries, mistakes, waves of near misses and ascendency by both teams. This game felt evenly matched….

if we are rating upset wins, then just given the fact they were prelim & sudden death finals games for us, it’s difficult for me to go past the 2011 SJ to Lewis Brown try game & the 2008 Michael Witt try game as our two greatest performances. I’m prob biased because I was at both however the feeling that came from witnessing those games & winning moments at the end will live with me forever.

The week before in 2011 against the Tigers was probably less about being an upset & more about overcoming adversity of the refs - I didn’t agree that we were getting cheated by refs last season, however I have no doubt the Tigers were ‘meant’ to win that game back in 2011. The look on the refs face when Inu scored was priceless.

2011 remains as the best game we have ever played.

But nothing beats that Michael Witt moment. We were sprinting down the hall way! Splayed across the floor - what a moment.

Beating the Panthers is always going to be a top win, but Yeo’s brain snap and Edwards missed kick helped us out a lot. I didn’t feel it meant too much in terms of our season.

I felt pretty good about the Dolphins game, there was an intensity that we played at which has been lacking and with a badly under strength team. Dolphins are a lot worse than the Panthers, but no luck involved with the win. If we show that much commitment, hunger and disclipline we’ll finish in the hunt.

Interesting. I felt it’s the win we needed to re-start our season. Had we lost I reckon Mt Smart would have been sold out 😂 but full of empty seats… 😂

At the time I posted the Penrith win was the best in our history all things considered. 10 top 30 players out injured, most of whom would be in the 17, guys out of position, a run of three losses and against the 3x champs who were only missing Cleary and to a lesser extent Taylan May.

Best thing I've noticed from the highlights from these 2 games is we're having multiple runners in the red zone to choose from, not just a decoy/short ball option and follow through, there's 3-4 players all running with good shape spreading the defence thin.

Panthers was the most unexpected and most needed.

But the Dolphins was a better and very impressive performance, with a lot more injuries.

Bringing back the good vibes.

I think every squad needs as least 3-4 rookies to bring the enthusiasm , desire and unpredictability of youth

1-2 and spraying them with limited minutes is not the answer Andrew (if you’re reading this 😂)

Yeah, i tend to agree to start.
Losing 4 in a row, against the reigning premiers who won last 4, full strength except for Cleary
Playing away from home (travel, etc)
Demoralising lost to the roosters.

Things to look out for in the Penrith game
AFB's body language and play. Was he dropping lip?
I want to watch the young guys - Laban, Roache, Ali, Tuapiki to see how much of an impact they really made outside the stats
Walker, Jazz, - back from injury
CNK @ 6 - wanna see his positional play, on D and A and how much it differs to when hes at #1

So much to look at - all of it GOOD 😂 ;)
CNK took time to adjust to his position but while his pinnacle was not classic stand off play he ran and passed effectively by the time Montoya scored.

He was his normal energizer bunny but closer to the play........which I liked.

Tuaupiki played without doubt. Compare that to the many fragile minds some of our players have.

AFB had an opportunity to pass right. Dummied and passed back into traffic. He dropped at least one ball. He wasn't bad but slightly off.
The next time we go through a losing patch I will come to his thread to relive the good times… ❤️ 😂

Both games are outstanding!!
I'm back because of this comment 😭
