Some members of this forum are fickle.
For many up until game time we were 40 pont winners with a championship winning team. And then after the game we want to replace the backline and some of the forwards. And teach the coach how to coach. I think sprinting out of the blocks like we have has made people forget reality.
100% its either resign everyone or change the whole team. Its incredibly frustrating, I tried to raise a couple of issues in our first few rounds and got shut down for 'not enjoying thr win'. Losing doesn't mean everything is wrong and winning doesn't mean everything is right!

I don’t disagree on most comments here but let’s be honest, not nearly enough blame is being put on that referee. Andrew GEEzus… mate, you were shit. BOO. BOO. BOO.

Pompey’s binning was an absolute joke. Watch the replay, Tigers player is literally standing in front of the catcher, blocking his view of whether the winger was even in front of the line. The whole thing happens in one fluid motion — catch, turn, try to get out. At worst it’s a penalty. But 10 in the bin? You’ve got to be kidding me.

And from that moment on, the ref just kept feeding the Tigers repeat sets on 50/50 calls, while we couldn’t buy a single one no matter how much $$$$& we put in his brown paper bag!! We were rolling early, but the sin bin, the soft penalties, the six-agains… they killed our momentum stone dead. You could see the frustration building, and once the concentration slipped, the Tigers pounced. All thanks to Andrew GEEzus you suck ref!

Then the errors start piling up

• DWZ drops a kick return.
• RTS can’t take a contested bomb to save himself.
• Metcalf is grabbing at jerseys.
• Pompey is leaving massive holes because he’s babysitting Metcalf on the inside.
• Ford suddenly forgets how to catch
• CNK thinks he can kick

Meanwhile the Tigers just played simple, direct footy and exposed our soft underbelly.

Everyone can talk about our attack, but honestly, the thing that disappointed me most was conceding 32 points. That’s not us. That’s not the standard. That’s not Webby bal.

And whoever said Metcalf is a good defender… no. Just no. He was targeted all night and breached multiple times. Give me CHT any day — he’s a rock. Metcalf’s sideways crabbing kills our shape, kills our rhythm, kills our backline flow.

There’s a lot for Webby to sort out — and that’s actually a good thing. We don’t need to be peaking now. We celebrate the wins, and when we lose, we stay grounded and focus on what needs fixing.

But man… that ref…

Well glad I am not the only one who noticed we were groped all over on the 4-5th tackles many times and the ref told them to play on, unlike the last 3 games

Bro

You are unbelievable

Winning for your means something is still wrong

Losing means I told you so…. 😂

No such thing is perfection. Do you expect Webby to come out after every win and say we have nothing to work on?
I expect Webby to know what needs to happen to keep winning

You don’t break a winning team like he did this week…. I can say that because we got a beat down. We got a beat down because Metcalf wrecked our mojo…. CHT paired with Tannah as a side kick was such a good combination. CHT was rock solid on defence and happy to play assistant to Tannah. With Metcalf back too many chiefs and the Indians didn’t know who to follow

I mean i agree, some bafflingly bad calls especially the sin bin but we are better then that.

That being said it was annoying for the markers to be basically standing next to the ptb and being called all good

Ya reminded me Egan kept running and humping behind the offside marker’s back and Gee was like play on 😂

We needed to be error-free to win by 5-10 based on that kinda ref and obviously we were terrible

Wrighty Analysis

Only two observations this week. Before I make them I just want to remind people that we all analyse things differently and that is ok. My style is to identify one or two key moments in the game that defined the whole match, while many others on this forum believe every moment over the 80 minutes is equally important. And that is ok too.
With that context in mind here are my two observations:
1) The losing of the match was Adam Pompey's extremely cynical professional foul that got him sin binned. We were winning comfortably 10 zip at that point and that sin bin changed the course of the match notwithstanding that we killed it off with no tries allowed.
2) After we fell behind at half time we had to chase the game and they kept their composure and the score board pressure forced mistakes out of us. Had we not had that sin bin we would have run away with the game and won by 30 points.

In terms of highlights from the match - I really enjoyed watching our super star back line. I thought Charnze in the first half looked like the elite centre we have been waiting for. I thought Taine was strong at full back and I thought Metcalf warmed into the game nicely. I thought our halves gelled nicely. I really hope Webster stays the course with this back line and gives it another 3-4 games before reverting. Let there be teething problems. The only thing that made us lose in my mind was Adam Pompey. He, as others have posted, was not switched on to the game probably due to family concerns on his mind.

No flames for this post please from Pompey fans.
Yeah good analysis there pompeys error was bad but I'm not sure if it was a binnable offense but fair enough I suppose.
Errors and especially missed tackles i thought were much more to blame and where we need work, we have been defensively sound leading up to the Tigers apart form lapses from leiataua and Dwz, but they'd only let a try or 2 in.
We also do have to put up with these combinations now as juggling chairs around will be detrimental to our season

I’d add to that the no dummy half when ford got a quick ptb was unforgivable, score on any one of those occasions and it’s possibly a different result. Think a loss was probably needed to keep us grounded but that was a bad loss.
On the Pompey brain explosion I don’t think it was as cynical as others made out- for mine even though it looked clearly caught on the full the way the Tigers player ran it back wasn’t trying to get to the 20 quick, it looked like he was trying to get out of goal. Pompey second guessed and took the safe option- dumb ? Yes but I think the Tigers player played for that exact result

By your theory if we had Nathan Cleary and he was injured you would never bring him back either. Your logic is so flawed

I might cop it but I thought Dallin minus the knock on had a solid game, I don’t know how we end up getting outnumbered in our red zone many times but he and maybe CNK rushed up to stifle the attack multiple times or stayed wide when we had the numbers, I don’t think he did the no man land once in the game?

Their tries came from 2 mistackles long range and 2 failed bomb diffusals from Roger

And I thought Luke was a great defender last year multiple try savers on the line and Boyd is putting his body on the line as well, he got obstructed but overlooked for a try, not blaming the Gee but coincidentally they laid all over us so many times and we never got the 6-again like previous 3 weeks even when likes of Clark beat the defenders and got shoved back second time
Yeah Dallin I thought was hearty and had a better game than his opposite number.

Hanson knew the assignment last week

Don’t overplay your hand
The defensive issues are a different kettle of fish, so I won't bother going in further on that just hopefully Capewell comes back sooner than later to hold Metcalf's hand. The combination of Leka and Metcalf defending together is a no go, so i'm not willing to say it's on Pompey and RTS as they have shown to be a rock solid combo.

But with the ball, CHT is a great sous chef to a dominant 7. CNK wasn't going to be overcalling Boyd once CHT got KO'd, so it worked also. Hanson wasn't going to be overcalling Boyd on debut so it also worked then.

Metcalf is the marquee signing and they've gone all in on him. So hes going to be on the field, for our seasons sake I hope he and Boyd learn to gel better and fast.

Our attacking success this season has come from playing very direct in all the iterations. I feel Metcalf struggles with doing that, and i'll happily go down with the ship on that one.

I don’t know if Luke was calling anything but regardless he shouldn’t on his first game back from a serious injury, we don’t know how long he’d take to get his mojo back usually takes a season doesn’t it?

I think we looked really slick those first 20 minutes. A few tries and limited errors, generally looked really good.
Pompey sinbinned, I feel we really aimed up for each other during this period in order to keep them to 0, but once Pompey came back on they had 3 quick tries in 6 minutes to lead at half time.
Imo the Pompey binning stuffed with our bench rotation - Webby seemed to hold players back on the bench during the sinbinning, however with the 3 quick tries and momentum swing meant thay Webby was playing catchup, and probably not his game plan.

Another thing that has to be said is the bounce of the ball. I thought in the Roosters game we had all the luck - the ball went to ground a few times ans we still ended up scoring. Imo this was the square up game where we had the opposite luck. Some of their tries came off of a solitary error, and a couple of times I think we managed to get over the try line or had a poor drop at a key moment- really uncharacteristic errors. These things happen and I think really, we need to flush it and move on.
As has been said, most teams that win the comp have 5+ losses a year, as long as were learning from these losses I think well be okay.
