If the powers that be see it as good for the squad I would back it, just sounds like the article mentions him wanting to look after his parents so perhaps want to stay close to them. Would become an expensive exercise to accommodate his parents too. I could see the bulldogs being a team that would take them all?

Volkman sounds like an existing injury. He was training at the Dragons in a non contact bib.

What happens if the Warriors medical expert believe it can be managed and no surgery needed. Dragons medical experts thinks the same injury needs surgery so won’t contract him? Neither could be in the wrong?

Is it common for a lapse between contracts? You can’t sign the new one before a release is granted and only then can the medical be done after that. Wouldn’t it be very common for a period between contracts?

Does insurances roll over between contracts? What happens if you trip over and bust a shoulder at home in that changeover period?

The 1 thing that falls back on the Dragons is why would you have him at training before doing his medical or registering the contract with the NRL.

Also just as an example could it not be argued that his pre existing injury was actually manageable without surgery but he aggravated it to the point of needing surgery during his time training at the Dragons. Obviously injuries don't work like that and this is a argument without diving into the science of it.

As someone else said this is a very complicated and unique situation and hopefully all party's (including the NRL) can come to an agreement and do good by Ronnie without needing lawyers involved.

Yep, seen plenty of cases of players coming back a decent bit earlier than projected.

In the meantime they need cash for a decent half. They're in crisis, and with Flanno's track record of treating the rules as mere suggestions I wouldn't be surprised if Ronnie picked up a shoulder injury in training and they've found some "pre-existing injury" to get him off their cap. Pure conjecture of course, Flannagan wouldn't do that really...

If his Dragons contract was say 3 years, the Dragons would probably honour it as it’s a small part of his contract and he’s relatively cheap.

Being 1 year, there is no benefit to them of going ahead and paying someone who won’t play for the majority of his contract.

That’s on Ronnie and his management for turning down security and CHOOSING to take a RISK. It’s looks to have backfired in their face.

Is insurance tied to players and time periods or tied to clubs - eg would he still be covered for a couple of months between clubs?

And didn’t the RLPA specifically get something in the last NRL agreement to cover players that finished their career (a contract) with an injury and didn’t have a contract but still needed support? Wouldn’t this be the same situation?

I hope for our sake and ronnies we find a amicable way to sort it out. If we aren't liable to cover it paying for rehab costs and giving a minimum wage wouldn't be a bad shout and an opportunity to get out and say while it was unfortunate for the dragons they needed to do better for the player. Would bode well for future recruitment If everyone sees we look after our own. Put some meaning behind the once a warrior slogan.

From looking on the dragons forum it sounds Volkman’s shoulder wasn’t completely healed from his last surgery and re injured. Not sure if it’s the case as he played a bit in between that time in nsw cup and against dolphins late last season, could be why the club were hesitant to use him also with Walker getting the nod over him? Sounds like the season off might be best for him in the long run, but I’m sure would like to be earning another contract instead. Tough break for dragons as another ex Warrior in Paul Turner is out injured too.

Not really imo kids been long enough in reserve grade got a taste of the nrl watched mam Walsh and others he played with and against secure a million a year after getting a shot after taking a cheap deal seen the road blocks here and knew the dragons was a chance to have his breakout year.

Turner potentially could have been used in the meantime as he’s played in the halves in the past. With him being injured and now Volkman too, they will need to go to market to find another. That could be the reasoning behind wanting to cut Volkman for the dragons? Hoping they go hard for Ezra Mam and drive the price up for broncos. Apparently Ben Te Kura impressing in pre season after playing for NZa late last year. 205cm and 122kg, he could be that big point of difference prop for us for years ahead at 19.
