General Warriors NSW Cup 2026

Glass half full opinion here.
IIRC a few years ago, we regularly had one of the youngest game day squads at this level, as the "zesty boys" were all making their way up the grades. Eventually they overtook some of the starters in the NRL squad which pushed a number of those guys down to cup, those guys combined with the remaining cup players to create an experienced championship winning cup squad.
I think we only had 5 of the 17 from last years final playing on Friday night, so the combinations will take a moment to gel, plus the young guys will still be adjusting to the pace of playing against men.
We looked pretty average on Friday, but I'm not panicking just yet, collectively they now have 17 more caps at this level than they did last week, after the next game it'll be 34, then 51. By midseason it'll be a collective 100+, and they'll likely have some of the experienced guys come down a level from NRL, which will help give them direction.

Always a worry when your most experienced player is Doyle who's not even an above average player at this level. Our leadership group is probably EIT, Kayliss, Hanson and Tafua, which is a pretty young group.

People need to chill I think, this is how the team should be used. To fast track young guys that have showed promise in the age grade sides.

People are also forgetting that the 6 man bench has taken out guys that would be playing in this team each week.

Sikuvea looked unreal. Salalilo should make a difference when he returns. And Niukore (or whoever he pushes down). Same with Barnett due back soon.

They were some pretty horrible defensive reads from Putoko. A game he should probably just forget about and move on from.

Why was Motu Pasikala dropped? Seems strange that he is supposdely on a development contract this year (was in the main team photo) then makes way for AKP. Would've thought Putoko makes way?

The preseason hiding to Redcliffe makes alot of sense now.

Looks like a spoon team but we should hopefully reap the benefits in the long term.
I would drop Putoko immediately for Brandon Norris. Or play Fatialofa in the centres.

I dont think thats even Putokos position! He should be doing doyls job as back up to Tuaupiki?

Results dont matter for me, its just the club thinking Putoko is a centre, he looked small out there on friday. How could we not keep Jackson Stewart!

Those type of physical specimens we should be after.

Is Linnane coming back as a half? We could have 3 good halves in a month and TMM to return, maybe be like Sharpe play both FB and 6 to open up more opportunities for FG?

Niukore and gannon named in cup. Niukore starting in the front row gannon second row.
Eddie in game day 19 must be
Makes sense to rotate the 18,19 spots so that people are getting game time. Interesting no Tauapiki. Could he be getting a run tonight

I do like the 19 man bench for the coverage…something we needed last year. But hopefully taine gets game time soon, won’t be able to challenge charnze for his spot riding the pine

That would be good but they can't risk having no halves cover if Tuaupiki gets hurt in the curtain raiser
Ah yeah, of course. With having to trim the squad prior to the NSW Cup kick off there is no chance to substitute
