General Warriors Harold Matthews 2025

NZWarriors.com

Poor game by the team.. The tigers were flogged by the Magpies who the Warriors flogged last week.

I think they beat South’s next week but the Roosters backs are very good. They could lose both games and would still make the finals.

I like the look of Fretton. Hes a big lad for someone who plays wing for school in yawnion. Hope the club can hold on to him
From what I understand, he's U16 this year so will still be eligible for Harold Matthews next year.

If you take that into account, he's probably more physically impressive than Bishop.

Fretton is a scary looking fella at this grade.

Nah at the same age Bishop was 4 inches taller and 15 to 20 kgs heavier. Satali is the most athletic rugby player in Auckland if not NZ though.

Played wing last year because he was a 14 year old with dispensation to play a bit of 1st 15. He played in the midfield at his own age.

After leading 24-6 and looking like minor premiers, hanging on by a thread now, 24-22 with 7 mins remaining.

Falling off tackles, looking very tired. Strange line up, best half I’ve seen in this side in extended bench.

Bishop made one trademark 60 metre break early in the game. Ref penalising the Warriors consistently back end of this game.

He and touchie are built like Teletubbies. 4-5 straight penalties now. Roosters take tap 10 out and half goes through some poor defence.

26-24, looks over, piss poor second half!

Fulltime 26-24, officials at this level are appalling. Everyone looks confused after Neal hammered a Rooster player who loses the ball forward from the kick off. Teletubbie ref calls fulltime.🤷‍♂️

NRL finals format and all finals are played in Sydney so they just had to finish in the top 4 to get a life. They’ll play the Roosters again next week.

The ref and sideline were average but were really just getting fooled by the Roosters who were pushing the boys in the play the ball and getting turnovers, subtle cheating all game.

The Roosters halves are miles better than the Warriors halves too. Probably in the top 10 players in the comp.

Hi Viking. I didn’t catch the game due to a family event.
How good did Charleston Te Rore and Bastion Armstrong go.
I thought last year in rep games that Te Rore had the right build and skill set to be a decent NRL middle.
Armstrong the same as a centre unless he prefers to stick with union.
Is Byford being groomed as a front rower in the Stowers Smith mould so that Hansen can stay at 13.
Is Hansen controlling the attack whether he plays 6,7 or 13. I’d prefer him
In the halves myself.
I think we have the squad to win it again.

Charleston and Bastion were strong but weren’t as dominant as they’ve been in their previous games IMO. Charleston always draws multiple defenders but had no line breaks. Bastion scored an easy try but was mostly contained which kept Felipe quiet.

I think at that age, forwards will play their natural game and the named positions aren’t too important. Ronan was named at prop and played like a lock. He needed to start. I think Tyson is a 6, he might see his future as a ball playing lock maybe. He hits the ball up a lot though.

The Warriors scored their 4 try’s from long line breaks then decided to play crash ball. The Roosters kept playing football.

Horrendous reffing towards the end of that game. Borderline match fixing stuff especially in the final 10 minutes.

Bishop lacking ticker at the end there. Needed to rush up on D like the rest of the line, but was too slow and left a gapping hole for them to score the match winner. He was outstanding other than that.

I'm probably in the minority but I'm not as impressed by Te Rore as most people. I feel like he's come through junior ranks in NZ just being bigger than everyone else. Lucian Mikaele is a much better front row prospect imo, when you take into account his defensive work and his speed at his size. Krushil Koteka I'd never heard of before this Harold Matts campaign but he's really impressed me, I'd take him over Te Rore. Both those front rowers are way more dynamic.

Bastion Armstong is a great player and no doubt Roosters will develop him into a first grader if he stays there. But I like Soane Ma'asi way more as a center prospect, has the ideal frame for in a center. I think Ma'asa has first grade star written all over him if he can develop, one of my favourite prospects at the club. Keepa hasn't been great this season but he's been good in first XV so worth holding onto. Hinckley Ioka's form the last few games since he joined the side has been impressive, almost forced himself in the side and made himself impossible to drop. Satali Fretton has also played a few games at center before moving to second row, and he's obviously an elite talent.

Byford is a lock for sure. He's probably too undersized to be a future full time first grade prop, maybe in stints. That try he set up today was impressive. He's been one of our best all year, probably a toss up with Lemana for player of the year. Fast and skilled with a huge motor.

Hanson is five eighth at the next level, probably in the Lachlan Galvin mould. Just has to play lock/second row to fit in Tusa Soagia and Ulaula-Ieremia in the halves. They've been giving Christiano Elia reps in the halves last couple games looking to next year as he will be a key player for us next year along with Satali Fretton, Kaian Olsen (who probably moves to fullback - he has serious wheels this kid) and Tusi Fanolua

Theres a 3 game eligibility rule to play finals that’s forced some selections so they’ve got cover through potentially 4 weeks of finals I think. My guesstimate is that they’ll have 24 eligible players for next week.

It didn’t show on camera but Christiano Elia was knocked out after chipping and passing to Lucian for the try at the beginning of the second half which forced Tyson to 6. He didn’t shine after moving there but they were getting penalised out of the game anyway.

Charleston has raw strength that has him ahead of most other forwards. His leg drive and post contact metres are better than Bishop but he’s nowhere near as fast. Bishops strip that gave away the penalty that led to the Roosters winning try is the sort of shortcut that will hold him back. It was a really poor decision.

Kenny is another that will play again next year.
