I would assume with this news that CHT is about to re sign for next season. I really hope it is a 2 year rather than 1 year deal as reported.

I'm pretty blown away Metcalf can't handle being 6 rather than 7. He's being paid great money to be a part of a successful team that has looked after him while he's been off the park (which is more the time he's been on the park). We all know his potential and what he can add to our team if fully fit and firing. I'm pretty gutted TBH, feels like there is more to this, or simply he puts his positional preference above the value of being a team player. Perhaps the Warriors have had a huge change of heart, and would prefer he clears cap and leaves? I would suspect Boyd is on a cheaper deal, and may better fit our future plans with our up and coming halves being seen as 6's rather than 7's.

There must be more too this, hopefully we'll find out soon. I hope he sticks around this season regardless, and that he goes to a Perth, Dragons rather than a Doggies or Sharks..

Would rather a player prioritise where he plays over a cash grab. If he was money hungry he would be sitting tight

It’s the fact that he won’t be playing 7 in the long term that is the issue with the signing of Tanah Boyd signing until 2029

CHT choosing to only sign a one year extension is probably a lot to do with what these other two halves are doing. He is smart enough to see that he could be the first one to miss out, as demonstrated in the first comeback game LM got. He might choose to stay longer if the club is going to release or not sign one or the other.
This is a good theory

As fans we get too emotionally connected to the players - which is cool as its part of the story and the brand.

BUT...

This is 100% a business. The players are assets/commodities.

Warriors will give nothing away for free unless it 100% benefits the side.

This is bonus of being a genuine development side (There is not actually many in the NRL). You create your own superstars. You improve players stock worth. You always trade up or equal too.
Well said mate, we're becoming an Nrl nursery!

He doesn’t know how good he had it here…

Hopefully his career can kick on but they’re pretty blood thirsty those Sydney teams especially the bottom dwellers.. he needs to hit the ground running

Injuries happen, just ask Luke..
They sure do. Unfortunately you have to bide your time for that. Boyd had to wait 558 days between signing up as a back up and getting handed the keys to a team. And that was playing behind Metcalf.... Speaking of Metcalf, he would be 28 nearly 29 in the same scenario except Boyd appears to be 100x more durable.

There is a very large chance that Metcalf could see less than a dozen first grade games over his contract if he was solely playing as a 7, as his expressed desire.

If it is that simple, that's a massive call to make in the grand scheme of things. He puts playing 7 instead of 6 above staying with this potential premiership team? He doesn't even want to fight for it? He doesn't back himself to take the jersey back?

He has played 2 games in like 10 months. There is more to this, and I think it is increased opportunities back home in Australia. Some clubs out there are desperate, and willing to put long and expensive deals infront of him right now. Over the off season when he is half way through ACL recovery, not so much. I believe this is firmly a money and contract length thing. Careers are short, Metcalf is another leg injury away from being unfulfilled potential. He is a player who relies heavily on his running game let's not forget. Strike while the iron is hot, get the bag while you can. I honestly think that's what's happened here, and I understand it. Boyd has done the exact opposite, funnily enough.

Crazy our 2 best players, who's injuries derailed our season last year, are now gone for 2027. Shit we must have a stack of cash.
