Yeah I forget about Linnane. Big fan of CHTs and I've been a supporter of Boyds, but you have to have one eye on contract status and one eye on recruits. You would have to be mad in this market to let 2 halves that you want to keep, enter into their negotiation year.
I get the feeling the club has a real we want to see you earn it mentality these days

Also re-signing Boyd, Capewell and CHT will fuck our cap space. Those are 3 veterans that could command a starting position, having a great start to their contract year. There is absolutely no way we can sign them below market value (maybe CHT). Time to send them onto their new homes and bringing in the next batch of pups.
No Marata, Potentially TMM but I think he would sign on cheap anyway, possibly no Capewell, Barney gone. That's a lot of cap space free.

I mean Webby has made it clear in press conferences/interviews in the past that they are just numbers on the back of the players backs and that it’s advantageous having both guys being able to play on either side of the field. It makes no sense for him to leave if he’s playing career best footy here, unless it’s for family reasons to move back to Aussie.
he will leave for $, he has to, would be negligent not to, came here when no-one else wanted him, this is his contract year run, look at the shape he's in, little bugger probably hasn't eaten bread since October.

the warriors might offer him something, but they already gave their lead half money to Metcalf, he could take TMM role in the squad, but this is his chance to get more than that

I dont think we will. I think we will help him get his own team.

Boyd had the dream come true. Fell out of favor, move to a new team, fight for your position, get offered a chance, and redeemed himself. The final chapter in that book is shaking off the reserve grader tag, getting named the main guy at a new club and leading them around. He deserves that and the pay packet that comes with it.

Loooool. And how did that go? Ohh he signed a 1 year extension cos Metcalf is injured. Its clear as day we dont want him as a long term halves option either
So you agree that not being resigned doesn't mean they won't be.

I don't understand the argument that we can't afford to pay CHT or Boyd more either. We are now a development club with forwards coming through. We don't have to target other players with high salaries. We will be freeing up a large amount of cap space with Marata, Capewell, Barney etc We should be pivoting and spending our cap in different positions. Hell, even LMs salary isn't exorbitant when it comes to halves (unless you look at it from a per game basis)

CHT has performed last year and the one game this year. Boyd looks very good so far. Going in to next season with just LM is folly and asking for trouble. Not resigning one or both of them will be a mistake and it won't be because we can't afford to.

TMM got re-signed out of need not want. No injury to Metcalf and he’s already gone.

CHT and Boyd’s paychecks will at least double.

I reckon it would be foolish of him to leave at the end of the season. We were the only club willing to take a punt on him when no one else wanted him and he’s now full of confidence and playing career best footy here. If he come to the decision that he wants to cash in and move back home closer to family, I’d accept it, but I have no doubt the club won’t let him go that easily.

If we extend him long term on marquee money, so be it. Theres still no guarantee regarding the longevity of Metcalf so for all we know, he could be gone in 2 seasons and where back to square one trying to find a quality halfback.

I agree with Inruin’s statement regarding our cap situation. We’ve got 1 player on marquee money (1mil+) and fish on 850k+. Egan I believe is on 650k. Losing Barnett, TMM, Niukore, Capewell and even RTS or DWZ is a big chunk of cap space at our disposal.

And lets not kid ourselves, Cleary, Thompson and not even close to NRL yet.

Paying a bloke marquee money to sit around in Cup? Thank god you’re not running the club.

The club will let Boyd go in a heartbeat. Remember Boyd is the hero in his story, sitting in reserves after proving himself, just as a favor to us is absurd.

The contract between us and Boyd has been fulfilled. He offered a cheap experienced half and we offered redemption.

Why can't he play 7 and Metcalf 6? That's were we should be spending our money. And given Metcalfs injury history Boyd wouldn't be sitting in cup long anyway if that's were we played him.

Just because LM says he wants to be 7 doesn't mean he should or that it is best for the team

Will we see #steelyedge or #Cuddle's?

Interesting times ahead. Club has a few options.

If you think Metcalf, who made a huge song and dance about moving to 7 in the media, to then lead the Dallys Ms in that position, is going to admit defeat and slink back to 6, you dont know people. Everyone has already committed to Metcalf at 7. To then rethink it cos your backup is playing well is madness.

The club isn't going to suddenly change direction 2 games into the season, just cos the reserve half got wins. That's his fucking job
