if niukore and barnett both depart end of this season we need one new experienced body in the forwards and ideally ask capes to run around again for another year
I think we have JFH, Egan, Clarke and Ford as the experience (all aged 28+) plus Vaimauga will be in his 5th year in 2027.

That’s 5 of our main forwards very experienced to support our juniors. I think we still have the balance right with Laban, Morgan, Leka, etc being a couple of seasons in as well by then.

In addition Metcalf will be 28 to guide the forwards.

I agree Capewell now is more of a priority resign now though.

Yeah there is still quite a lot of experience left. Either Capewell or a mid tier replacement would be the icing on top.

Although it's "only" Super League, Gannon has as many first grade appearances as Demi/Leka/Laban have combined in the NRL.

All 3 of those zesty boys will also be at about 50 NRL games by the start of 2027.

I like Taine, he’s got a bit of pace, nice ball skills and can be elusive. However he’s not great at any of those things which you need to be when you are as small as him.

Happy to have resigned him as depth and to help out the young halves in cup but feel at 27, if he was going to have made it as a starting half he would have already.

It probably been spoken about, but would we consider Barnett for Lomax? Apparently the eels are in discussions, we’re currently short a centre. Lomax isn’t playing currently & eels are seeking compensation for his large contract, could we offer them barnett? Realistically it’s probably a fair trade.

For what it’s worth I’m in eels camp regarding the Lomax situation, and I can see the red flags with Lomax. However, he’s one of the best in the air, and is a state of origin & international winger, who can play centre. He would also add strike to our otherwise vanilla backline.

Just a thought

Lomax is a good player, but how long could you imagine him sticking around in Auckland!

All I’m saying is that’s it’s a possibility re Lomax. Currently he isn’t playing & the eels won’t budge. But if they could be compensated, they will, thus allowing Lomax to finally play. It might be his only option? The storm stuff is going to Supreme Court & doesn’t look like it’ll be resolved any time soon. Alternatively, the Lomax trade could be actioned this week & he could be playing for us

Barney to Parra

Lomax to storm

Storm gun back to Wahs. I'd even take the injured Coates.
