Barnett said he came he for his initial contract and was going to move back to Australia. I can't recall his exact quote but it was along the lines of moving from Australia would be a unique experience for his young family.

He's arrived here and turned his career around. Become an Origin and an International. Also a leader.

He has also said he has enjoyed it here. The coaching and the playing group has helped, along with results.

So, he'd be hard to lure away. It will cost any club to sign him now that he is an Orgin and International level player.

The debate will be similar to us re-signing him. His age will be up there. How long does he want to play on for vs how long you want a guy on your books in his mid 30s.

Then from our point of view. Is he settled enough in NZ to stay another year or two. Even returning to Australia may be narrowed down to certain locations depending on what they want for their family.
To further muddy the waters, there’s always what PNG/Perth could put ont the table $$& and years wise. If I’m PNG, I’d offer an extra year knowing you might lose a little on field, but you’d get a great standard setter off it. Good for them, good pay day for him - who says no?

Apparently that was a big factor in Cooper Bai rejecting storm and sticking with titans, because he has an option that storm obviously wouldn’t allow that’s potentially to join PNG. Sounds like could be similar with Haas with a couple of theories that he was lowballed, or broncos wouldn’t allow options which it sounds like rabbits have?

Barney and Roger could be year by year basis extensions like SJ and hang around the group and bench until waning off, Barney’s a late boomer so who knows he might still have 3-4 years in him if he recovers from his ACL, Roger should be there as a challenge until someone outplays him and we seem to suck at outside back depth, both probably candidates to transition to mentoring or coaching if they wanna stay longer

Barney can easily command more than year to year extensions. The club will need to decide if they want to commit another 3-4 years to him.

Barney will be 33 when his current contract expires. He’s been relatively injury plagued and I feel Father Time has been catching up to him. He’s a smallish prop coming to the end of a longish career.

Signing him until a 36 or 37 year old isn’t what the Storm or Panthers would do.

Would the club entertain the idea of signing a centre ? With Rocco injured again , we are already playing a back rower there .
Ps: not another Morgan Harper
Get the feeling they might give Putoko every opportunity? Webster gave me the impression that he’s got real sympathy for Berry’s unlucky run with injury, but you’d think even in himself mentally that he’s only a serious injury away from contemplating his future? The dream is Casey McLean for me, but he’s locked up until 2028. Definitely seems a proud māori though so maybe a compassionate release like JFH would be afforded if we came knocking?
