Recruitment Warriors 2026/2027 Recruitment & Retention

This request will be ignored but can we have a separate thread for the Dad jokes about Henry Inch's name. The worst time I ever had on a cricket forum was when Quentin deKock broke into the South African team and people on the cricket web site could not handle his name and it went for 6 months hearing Dad/innuendo jokes. Inch is his name. It is a fine name. And I bet the Inches are good people and good stock.

What will be really "funny" is if he reads all these jokes about his name his Dad gave him and figures you guys are a bunch of cunts and signs with the Roosters instead because his paper work isn't over the line yet.

Yeah, I bet his mother loved taking his last name.

Sorry

Im not sure if thats the case on this one.

We need to put it into perspective he defensively is bad, his best tackle efficiency year is 70% and 25 post contact meters.

May be a project that comes good but I wouldnt have high hopes.
You can either develop a star, pay overs for some one past their peak, or take someone who has massive problems with them and hope to turn them around with some kiwi tucker and good coaching. Let's say he was good at defence. Then the Titans would be keeping him and he he would be the Dally M winger the last two years. That's no hyperbole with his offence abilities if he can lift his defence to say 78% every year he will be a Dally My winger. But I hear you. I responding as I am relieved to change the topic.

I honestly hope so, Webby has a decent record so far with getting good from players who are questionable (Barny, Erin clark and kind of dylan walker / Montoya) and get the good out of them.

I will say this project is by far the largest. Now hes a warrior i hope he kicks on, but I think we should temper our excitement a bit that hes in and gonna kick DWZ out of the team and solve that puzzle.

Also interestingly the better teams rely on their back 3 to take tough runs at the start of sets DWZ has on average 10 m more post contact and taking him out could set us back at our set starts.

I really don't think we're getting an unexpected return from Barnett or Clark. Barnett was a quality footballer already (especially after maturing a bit), he just wasn't on people's radar much over this side of the Tasman. I was ecstatic when we signed him. Clark had been playing great football at the Titans too. Another I was stoked to sign.

Ford is more the Webby product to me.

I have to admit that I have low expectations of AKP. I just don't see it really. We're so x-factor starved that we can't see the deficiencies clearly in my opinion. This is one I really do hope I've underestimated though. I'm pretty keen to see Mellars and Linnane, and optimistic about what Norris might do next year.

Have to politely disagree sir. While both were decent, they've gone to another level. Barnett one of the first picked for Origin this year, and Kangaroos when earlier I don't think he had ever been considered. Same as Clark - we bought the best lock in the game this year, likely for interchange player money. They've gone another level. Although Barney I think got an extension, probably at a higher rate.

Also, I was looking at AKP's stats, and while they're pretty bad (2.0 missed a game), the standard for most wingers look to be 0.8-1.5 missed tackles, with Roger exceptional at 0.6 missed tackles a game. He only needs to improve a small amount to come back to the middle of the pack, he's never gunna be the top defender but hopefully he can get to around where most wingers are, with the huge upside of being a fast try scorer

Fair enough. I was looking at Clark really closely the last couple of years and thought he was very solid. It would be interesting to hear @kos perspective.

Same for Barnett for me. He was playing great footy and was there or thereabouts. RCG, TPJ, Saifiti, Paulo etc have all fallen by the wayside and he was next man up for NSW. I'm not saying his game hasn't grown and the Warriors haven't been a big part of that, but I really thought his trajectory was heading that way anyway. The transition to prop has been awesome.

When Barney came over to us, people forget that he was massively damaged goods. He had a reputation as a bit of a loose cannon who spent more time on the sidelines than actually on the field. A bit like Mad Jack who Newcastle eventually signed as well. Webby turned him into the middle who now effectively has a lock on a starting position in NSW origin and is the spiritual leader of our club. If he stayed at Newcastle, I've got no doubt he'd be finishing up now in super league given the way that club has deteriorated. If ever there was an example of the webby effect, it's Barney.

Barney was reknown as a street fighter up in Newey.
