We signed Metcalf without that indication and paid him $900k....
I never saw him as a game managing 7 (still dont)......even last season when he was leading Dally Ms. His kicking game pleasantly surprised me but generally it was his support play and speed taking on the line that were the main features......saw him at the start of his first grade career and have always maintained....his skills would suit fullback (even if his body wouldnt)

But i will say his point of difference to Boyd (last season anyway) he seemed to want to own those big moments in games where Tannah was hesitant. However Tannah's playing with this new found confidence this year so im really interested to see how that translates to the games and moments that count.

Not going to happen of course cause these guys have to re-sign but id want to see how all these guys perform in a play off series before id commit either way......real world tho, recruitment dont have that luxury.

Cht to stay.
Tanah if he goes real well will earn a contract elsewhere. It's wierd but at some point , Luke needs to take the 7 off him... somehow. Otherwise we signed the wrong half?

I mean no point playing met at 6.
Agree with the Mets thing. Not all that sure that Tanah will jump.

I figure he may have realised that Webby and the Warriors are a comfort zone he may not get any where else despite the money. Big difference to being at the Tits and it shows.

As much as I don’t really want us to be in the position, we need to see him with the game on the line. As a 7 and goal kicker, he needs to be able to own big moments. Not to take away from his great form at all though

Again, I think the Warriors should plan a get out of jail clause on the goal kicking, just hire a reasonable kicker or even toy with the idea of bringing young Harry inch up early as a fullback, he looks like he is gonna be a typical Union kicker (good in other words). If Reece Walsh could debut for us at eighteen Harry is a obvious long term option to kick for this team, shit put him on the Wing even, I do not care.

Would you think a solid 2-3 year $600k - $700k a season offer to CHT and Boyd each would do the trick?

I know in contract signing year its not a realistic expectation but as far as our halves go i wish we could just wait and see how things play out this season,

Cant argue that the Boyd/CHT combo seems the best combination to see us through the season proper. But i am a little cautious and want to see how they go in the games that count - a play off series where u need your playmakers to own the big moments. There's no question there's a step up in intensity from the regular season and seen many a season where regular season form halves just cant take their game to the next level.

Not saying these guys cant but seeing how they go in the big ones for me would give a better indication when it comes to re'signing.

His current form is a continuation or growth of the panthers playoff game, we’ve already seen how we went with him in knock out intensity until that dumb CNK nap moment

Some players just need that Knights game to grow

We’ll know sooner or later with extensions offered or not? Perhaps the club just has other plans? Sexton was leading bulldogs around well and they pulled the pin? Happy to back the club in their decision though just being a fan and not privy to all the behind the scenes things that come into consideration when putting another contract to a player. At the end of the day either him or CHT will probably earn a better salary elsewhere because of their form and the platform the team is giving them, I personally hope it’s our home bred player in CHT that stays if there’s a choice between the two

Yeah I have been debating this, I think Boyd is more like a Fogarty type player. Good game manager, good kicking game, but not in that elite category. So salary range in my head was around 700- 900. But that won’t stop a team desperately wanting a half throwing in a couple extra 300-500k to nab him.

The other key thing in my opinion is distribution and allocation of salary cap by position. If we already have Metcalf at 1mn, can we afford to spend another 1.5mn on another two halves, or is that money more wisely spent on the fullback position.

We also have a young crop of forwards that will expect to be paid in future years, and we will need to be smart with our cap management ala Panthers to let some good players go while retaining the key individuals.

The dogs was the case of how to mingle and mess up the vibe and performance 😂 Webby and the apparent “family environment” makes me think we will go about approaching it differently

Let's assume Metcalf is on $900k. If we could sign both Boyd and CHT for a combined $1.3m, which we can afford, that would be a great result and prudent. If one or both leave we would need to resign TMM which would be for very little coin. Then we have two injury prone halves.....

Ah well. We’ll know sooner or later with extensions offered or interest elsewhere

If we can get both for that kind of money then I think it'd be silly for the club not to jump on that deal. But id personally be very surprised if Boyd or cht are below 750k. Always had a soft place in my heart for TMM, so also agree with the idea that if we can't secure boyd we might as well grab TMM for cheap.
