Im far from an expert on this stuff but this feels to me like RTS has been offered a one year contract at a reduced rate. Hes come back and said he wants a two year contract, the Warriors haven't budged so his manager has spread this rumor to put a bit of pressure on the Warriors.
The dude is still our best winger right now, but front office might be wondering if that hammy will last two years.

I can't see it. This is just agent talk to get Warriors to change their offer so he can stay in NZ.

He'll end up in Japan playing union earning double what he would at the Sharks.

He has AB's on his resume. He'll still earn big coin in Japan or Europe.

Perhaps you know more about the situation but that doesn’t sound like that’s in his intentions? Perhaps the offers aren’t attractive and you’re theory becomes reality it sounds like there’s teams at least inquiring

None of us know anything about it, including the media.

Its all speculation.
Yeah pretty much, a public made article stating a return to Sydney on the cards is we’ve got to go on as it’s developed though. Really think the rugby stint was all about a pursuit of an All Black jersey, but a payday could be attractive I suppose? The worlds getting to the point where you’d be careful where you’d take a young family too

I hope the club never does businesses with the broncos again. They should have disallowed Barnett going there after the Reece Walsh bs.

Will be interesting if Cam George sticks to his word and lets the deal fall through if we don’t receive who we’re after. Barney’s cooling down period ends early next week.
He hasn’t been formally released yet. The reporting has been pretty sloppy, but my understanding on the situation is that he has permission to talk to suitors but not permission to sign anything yet. We know how the Australian media can run away with a story. Given how quiet it’s been in the last few days I would say both clubs are deep in negotiations. There’s probably a lot of moving parts.

End of the days warriors could block him from signing to Broncos and he has to pick between another team (who offers us something better) that's not his preference professionally which is still fine as his reason for moving back takes preference for family reasons.

I’d be under the impression the Warriors and Broncos are on pretty good terms. They lent us Arthurs and released Walsh to us and we paid back the favour by releasing Walsh only to the Broncos.

The player has to be keen on coming to the Warriors and the Broncos have to be happy to release the player. Both those things need to happen for the Warriors to get a player.

This article confirms a few things https://www.zerotackle.com/warriors-target-broncos-recruit-for-barnett-swap-231594/

We're just not going to take anybody,” said George.

“I know the Broncos have had a meeting about it, and I'm just still waiting to find out where they are, with everything. Both clubs are being very reasonable and fair. We know we're not going to get a $1 million player out of them, but at the same time, it's all part of the business, and the Broncos know a deal has to be done.

“It hasn't been lost on me the Mitch situation, that's not in jeopardy. However, we think it's a fair decision to take, and we expect Brisbane to be reasonable as well. The shoe could be on the other foot one day, and it doesn't work for anyone.”

"George also confirmed that the Warriors have space in their full-time squad for an immediate switch.

“Yes, absolutely, there is the opportunity to accommodate someone this year and beyond,” he said.

“We are just waiting on the Broncos to confirm what that could look like. We're not letting Mitch go this year, but if they (Broncos) need to consider (releasing) a player for this year, we are open to suggestions.”

It's a fine line to walk.

This was a legit 'compassionate grounds' release.

'Not disclosing' the reason for Barney leaving, to leverage a better deal, is pretty dodgy.

The optics get pretty bad, pretty quick and this can effect alot (desirability as a club, public perception...etc)

George is smart. He knows the situation and that there's a high chance we won't get anything.

This is why they should have just said its a 100k transfer fee and you can go where you like. Too many moving pieces involved with a player swap when compassionate grounds are involved.

It is hard as an outsider to get a handle on how serious the compassionate grounds release is. I don't blame Barnett for wanting to do what's best for his family. Whatever the situation is it wasn't urgent in the sense that he had to leave immediately. Webster said they wanted to be back to have family support and then Orr said they are moving to Brisbane to be closer to his brother in law. A compassionate release to be closer to receive family support from a sibling may be totally valid -In my dysfunctional family we would be seeking releases to get further away from each other not closer!!

I have no issue with Anderson - he is solid and has come through 2 good clubs , has versatility and I think (???) pretty much injury free.

The big question being , ' where does leave Rocco?"

With Pompey, Ali, AKP, RTS?, Mellars, DWZ, Anderson ? maybe CNK? plus some of the younger guys can we accomodate an injury prone centre?

Only issue is that if he goes to another club he could be a sensation if he can stay on the park - maybe a union return would e better for him?

Most of those guys will get phased out in the coming years.

RTS, CNK, DWZ are on the wrong side of 30. The goal here will be to get younger and more dynamic in the back 3.

Ali and AKP are more dynamic but both have noticeable and concerning flaws in their games that need to be addressed or they won't hang around.

Berry can't stay healthy and that's no good to anyone.

Mellers is an unknown at the moment and there's ??? about his ceiling and whether he'll just get overtaken by local juniors.

Pompey is really the only secure one at the moment due to his reliability. The rest are either on the way out or currently flawed and risk being overtaken/pushed out.

Very interesting what will happen to Berry, seemed to be 1 year away from becoming an established solid FG centre, then that nerve injury destroyed his shoulder. Did he have a 2nd surgery this year or was it the 1st from the last Manly game? He's 25 this year so how long can they repeat this type of season and if he busts it again this year after 1-2 games is that it?

What was the BS? Didn't we block Walsh from negotiating with the Dolphins, because we were dirty with Peter O'Sullivan, practically handing Walsh back to them? I don't understand how the Broncos did us wrong in that situation

They didn't do anything wrong.

I don't mind George taking a stance to make agents second guess the whole compassionate rerelease gambit, but if the Broncos aren't willing to give up anyone or nobody is willing to come - watcha going to do?
