Capewell was playing through a bunch of injuries in his last year with the Broncos and again with us in his first year 2024.

Last year he was largely fit, that's the real Capewell.

When the camera was on him signing autographs he dropped the pen. As he picked it up he winced and stood up slowly. Hopefully just his muscles just reacting to the first competitive hit out of the year rather than something he has to keep managing.

How good is it waking up on a Saturday after a big win on Friday night. So good!

On reflection, we really did get the bounce of the ball last night. I would say 70% of the time last year, either that Pompey try isn't given by the ref, or the Charnz put down/DCE try would have been given, or both would have gone the other way.
Both of CHT's tries had an element of luck about them, and on another night that ball hit Lindsy Collins on the chest and he scores under the post, with only 6 points the difference with 5 to play.

That's not to say we didnt play well, or didnt force the Roosters into many of their errors. Its just rare that the bounce of the favored us on almost every occasion. Even the challenges, our successful one and their unsuccessful one, ive seen way worse ones given/not given. We were on the right side of both....so fortunate

I think it would have been a great game learning wise from our younger players. While there were some great moments, I thought generally Ali, Laban, Healey, Vaimauga, Leka and Tanner all had errors and issues in their game. The bench and energy they bring usually is a positive momentum switch for us, however we seemed to stagnate in that 30-60 min period or so.
Im really hoping that if Barny is back in the next few weeks hell help with that period, having a seasoned vet like him coming on will help steady the ship.

Overall, really really pleasing start to the year and something we can hopefully improve on

We added the offload in the offseason. Didn't overplay it, and I think it's a much needed addition.
Yeah, it was like we took all of the Webby foundational stuff and just added that 10% with the promotion of the ball. This was an absolute must for the season as far as I was concerned, so it was fantastic to see it. I also thought it showed that the team had confidence and backed themselves completely against a good Chooks outfit.

Regarding the lopsided penalty/six again count. The Roosters have been in top 3 most penalised teams for many seasons now, including being the most penalised team last year. You would think it’s about time Trent Robinson woke up regarding his post-match bickering of the referees. He also seemed overly arrogant in the pre-match interviews thinking they would come here and get the job done easily.
There wasn't a single comment in the presser about the Warriors playing well. Arrogant pricks.

A+ from the referee too I thought in that game. Yes we got the bounce of the ball and 50/50 calls etc but there weren’t any howlers. And I loved the way he dealt with Tedescos bratty whining. Like any good parent should - tell them they’re wrong and then turn your back on them and leave them to cry in time out.

Dear NRL, Can we please get Wyatt for all our home games? 😂

Still got a smile on my dial despite a grunty hangover 😵

The surprise win of the night for me was actually in the on screen graphics. For years (since 2018 I think) the Aussie league coverage has been counting the game clock down while Skys coverage has kept emulating Yawnion and counting up. My partner has listened to me moan about this for all those years and mid first half pointed out the fact they had fixed it. I am no longer…

Gonna have to find something else trivial that pisses me off now. Any ideas?
Some of the strange stoppages on said clock? why was it time off for Mark N's cramp for example?

His experience will be key if so.

They got a good crop of big young forwards being weened in right now.

They will have a formidable sooner than later.
Ford gets a lot of hate I think from a few years back when he had pudding fingers. But he's worked on that and his discipline which allows us to see his valuable traits. I'm increasingly convinced that Jacko is as instrumental to our system as a Fish, Barney or Capes. His ability to play big minutes is crucial to the youth development in our forwards because it allows webby to ease them in instead of expecting them to put in a big shift and try to break the game open which is the unfair burden that befalls the young dragons forwards for example. Don't know when his contract ends but I see value in re-signing him. If Barney is our modern day Kevin Campion, Ford is our modern day Luck.

This looks like something that belongs in the chookpen forum.

In the same way if a coach says in a pre-game interview "The (insert NRL team name) can beat anyone when they put it together", you can put the house on that coach being Webby.
Lara Pitt's probably having her Australian citizenship revoked for picking us beating the Roosters in the NRL "Experts" Tipping.
And I think I saw a grand total of 1 Australian "pundit" pick the Warriors as making Top 8 after reading all the Predictions for 2026 articles.

FIne. That's fine. You guys can just look really stoopid when we do. Comfortably.

many of the same "experts" also left out the Raiders which is equally as stupid. You would have thought they would have learned their lesson last year when the same predictions were made and both sides were top 4 for pretty much the full year. Something tells me both sides will feature in finals again this year and the media darlings Eels and Phins will miss out again.

One huge advantage we have are the motors on our forwards, Ford, Clarke, Laban. Capewell, all can play long minutes. Also to me TSS is building to that too. Add to that Egan pulling the strings in the middle. It ultimately means our bench can be used strategically rather than by minutes. Very pleased for Boyd, he did well. You could see the whole team was pleased for him. That is great for team unity.

I remember RTS saying in pre season that we were playing fast.
I seen exactly that last night.
We were getting the ball to the edges fast and promoting the ball with speed through the middle. I
I was surprised at times that the ball didn't die with someone after a little flurry of second phase footy, like it would have in seasons past of Webby football.
I remember it on one specific play to Dallins wing in the first half, it just looked crisp and fast.
This is the thing that has been missing from high completion Webby ball.
If we can sustain it over the season and not lose our nerve after a couple games of low completion, error ridden games, we will be in contention.

Great game, reminded me a lot of our 2023 game plan with bodies in motion and Boyd taking on the line.
Boyd looks better on the left so maybe he slots in there when the messiah returns?
As much as I like Leka I'm beginning to get "Hurrell" vibes, hope he tames it down.
