Pick Your Team Sydney City Roosters v NZ Warriors - [Round 1, 2026]

Except for Centre (Ali or?) and maybe second row (Laban vs Niukore) and a couple of bench spots, the team is pretty much sorted

1. CNK
2. DWZ
3. Pompey
4 Ali
5. RTS
6. CHT
7. Boyd
8. JFH
9. Egan
10. Ford
11. Laban
12. Capewell
13. Clark

14. Sam Healey
15. Demetric
16. Halasima
17. Niukore
You've pretty much nailed Webby's lineup.

I also hope this is the team that's selected and we don't end up having something from left-field like RTS at centre and Laban dropping out to accommodate AKP and Gannon. Ali is our specialist centre and Laban was on the right trajectory before the illegal shot that broke his leg so they should be given the first chance for the season.

So from that based on Websters comments: Gannon and AKP signed for fg, Mellars signed as a future serious prospect.

Specifically Gannon gives us more minutes (so that is a clear metrics/coaching strategic hire, not a talent based descision alone) and AKP gives us speed (ditto, strategy/metrics).
Does he mean that Gannon can play lots of minutes? like an 80 minute backrower?

Probably, although I would say in the context that he would be a starting backrower with that capability in mind if anything happened to the bench impact backrower and he had to go straight back out there.

You can imagine with Websters love of an arm wrestle defensive territorial contest that he wants endurance guys that allow him to stay the course when the opposition is not showing signs of fatigue and keep grinding them for as long as possible before making a tactical switch to some explosiveness off the bench. It may well be that we have not seen Websters idea of a perfect game plan executed due to the shortcomings (as he sees it) in the forward make up during his time here?
