Pick Your Team Storm v Warriors - [Round 6, 2025]

NZWarriors.com

My main two wishes for this game:
- we don't get 50 put on us
- Some combo of Erin/Marata/JFH/Leka/Demetric/Ali combine for the hardest tackle on earth on NAS that has him seeing little cartoon birds to send him off the field for the rest of the game.

Oh and a win would be nice but we can't be too unrealistic right 😅
When NAS came back initially he gave away atleast one penalty and made a few mistakes. Probably comes back against us and has a MOTM performance ;)

Especially with that huge pack!
I like what Johns has done here, he’s drawn attention to our poor record against them in the last decade. We were a bogey team for them once but with these stats getting attention publicly means nobody will give us a chance. We play best when expectations are low and the team should accept this as a real challenge with that record in consideration

We really need to get better at this though. The nature of successful teams is that they have media gushing over them.

Really it's all outside noise and I feel like we'd be best going into every game thing that no one wants us to win.

I actually think it's part of the reason we've never had the spoon. Came close. But never actually been the worst team in the comp.

Attitude is our do or die, imo.

Only way to get better at it is be the favourite before we can even address it. Round 1 we were favourites, but nobody really knows what a team is like in a new season. Each week since we’ve been the underdogs and coming into the next game, deservedly so. I talk about it so much but I see so many similarities between our first grade team and nsw cup in a never give up attitude

Yip. Agree on your point here, but kinda feeds into what I was saying.

For sure. We are getting better at the outside pressure thing. This is where having premiership winners and origin stars have benefitted us.

I was talking in club history sort of sense. Our biggest strength is having leadership groups that know the pressure and can steady the ship - for lack of a better sense.

We'll only get better as the young, energetic lads develop mental resilience. I'm liking what I'm seeing at the moment.

I just hope the boys avoid being embarrassed in this one like Manly were today. I'd happily take a Storm 1-12pt loss here because every team is going to get smoked against this lot this year when they are on. Beating them will require the game of our lives and a lot of luck (ie Storm being off their game and a weather event like last week). An 80 minute performance is needed here: all it took was 2 5 minute periods where Melbourne scored 6 tries!.

The Refs are the biggest problem when we play them over there.

Having said that, at least it is not the Annual ANZAC Australian stich up. Those games are literally impossible for a NZ team to win.

If by some miracle we catch a Ref in a mood that wants to throw his weight around against the Storm then we are a shot. I am not asking for that. I want consistency like everyone else. Just saying, the Warriors mega upsets (and this would be a mega upset victory) come off the back of Refs having a special.

Yeah sort of, but that point I tried to make about being a new season and nobody knowing form stands for me. For whatever reason they saw us favourites in round 1, and I don’t see that we lost that because of the favourites tag. The raiders were better prepared and their victory over the broncos the following game for them showed it was no fluke their round 1 performance

I’ve long held the belief that Melb are ruthless in the first 20mins of each half, go with them for those periods and you are a chance.

Could be assumed such a vocal, passionate Coach would set an exacting game plan than can be followed for a period (20mins for eg) before fatigue and natural footballer behaviours sets in.

I’d be steeling our guys for both periods, and if we found ourselves in front - then both 5min periods before end of halves as they go full helter skelter to get their noses in front, perhaps a desperate attempt to avoid the predictable Bellamy spray.

Where we’ve contested well before, we’ve won the first and third 20min Qtrs.

Easier said than done of course.

We seem to be getting the opposition to get into the grind this year. Which suits our forwards and backs. Alot of work horse type players.

We've also had a ton of luck, Especially in the first half of games. Where Manly, Tigers & the Roosters fumbled plenty of try scoring opportunities. Only to drop their heads & give us confidence.

Will the grind work against Melbourne? Probably not! Someone here said Melbourne don't have huge forwards? Thats a big LOL .....Utoikamanu, Katoa , Vaalepu, Loiero are huge Humans. Nas off the bench(If he plays) is THEE biggest. Even Shaun Blore at 188cm 107kg is a big boy.
Then we have to combat their backs who are as big as forwards. Warbrick, Coates & Howarth are massive.

How do win? Luck lol. Oh, And Halasima! Nothing flashy, Team unity & a pin point kicking game. Keep them in their half as much as possible. Then tackle like demons. Egan is the key, Let him cook. Metcalf to run off his shoulder and CHT to do what he has been doing. Tackle , Hit Ups, Short kicking game when needed.

Most importantly we have to slow down the ruck.
To do this we have to up our defensive line speed.
In attack we have to target Hughes and Munster and take the steam out of them
Sounds simple but actually a tough gig
