We were cheated out of that game.

We were so awesome who gives a f about the loss.

Sometimes you have to realise if your team can go that close to a leg up top side, that it says you have a brilliant football side.

We are back.

Top four performances two weeks in a row but unfortunately we are only getting forty minutes of it so far, which is fine, that was the case early doors last year.

Our team just needs to be patient and to find their eighty minute legs.

Don’t sit in the negative vibes of this loss whanau. We did extremely well to come back down 14 points to take a 8pt lead in the 2nd half, we scored 20 straight points and kept the Storm scoreless for 56 minutes.

They won on a freakish play - we left it all out there.

We play like we did in the 2nd half every week we’ll be ok.

The 1st half, and the 2nd half from last week is NOT acceptable.

But the boys did well today. Let it go and look to next week.

Heart breaking result but that was an amazing try to win it.

Impressive second half from us. Got back to that grind, make them work for it game plan. Afoa and Ale off the bench added what they needed and was missing I think from last week.

In years gone by, warriors teams would have folded at half time and conceded plenty in that second half. Resilience is still there even if the 2 points didn't come our way.

Our player of the day was Tuapiki IMO. Outstanding from the young man

We have 7 weeks of completely winnable games coming up. I can sense a statement win is on the cards in Christchurch in front of a massive crowd to kickstart our season.

It’s scary to think what this team will achieve if we can get back to being an 80 minute team that we got glimpses of last season. If we can replicate what we did in the second half offensively against the storm, we will blow some teams off the park before they can even respond. Not all teams are built like the storm.

I was super proud of Taupiki, Ford and Metcalf. They cop the most shit in our team but they all came up with big individual plays to get us back into the game. Special mentions also to Bunty who provided an instant spark of the bench completely dominating. RTS who was displaying vintage 2018 Dally M form. And Rocco who has all but locked down his centre position.

I was in absolute pain last night like most but I’m optimistic after sleeping on it that where on the up.

Hope they work on those line d and defending desperation attacks, the Raiders last year and now this

Any analyst here could you explain how they should have defended the Pap try? Should have blocked it the second time they used it

The Coates one you just get DWZ to glide laterally better
Just well constructed plays involving players with x factor i think. If your sticking to your structure and teams score outside those structures like that so be it, its when your not sticking to those structures youve got problems.

Quite right both those Paps tries were obviously planed, went wide, threw a couple of decoys to hold up the line (to which i thought both times we handled pretty well and were still sliding across) both times targetting our second rowers (Capewell and Ford defending inside our halves). In the end they we're just too slick with some nice hands (especially that 2nd one from Katoa), then if you've got x factor speed like Papenhuyzen does and the timings good.....then they'll break any defence down, dont think we did anything necessarily wrong.

The Coates one i think you need to look at what happened before they spread it (cant remember the play before hand) but Paps got on the outside of Barnett (thats a bad mismatch for us) and it ended up being a 4 on 3 which is why Rocco and Dallin we're holding.....i actually think they did really well there to recover (a few seasons back we wouldve had players jamming in all over the place and getting caught for numbers basically anytime a team spread the ball on us)......we recovered Dallin got to his man......just unfortunate he turned into the fucking olympic high jump champion.

Think we just take our medicine and tip our hat to some good and freakish plays from the opposition there.

If the warriors lose next week they will be on life support
Are you a young poster? Not been following this lot for twenty plus years? I honestly ask respectfully and mean no disrespect. Just tryna get where the angst is coming from.

Top teams like us lose games in the early rounds, three in a row is no issue provided all the loses are narrow and are to decent teams.

Canberra are one of the form sides in the comp at the moment, if they get us I still won't be stressing.

We learned a lot of useful information last night (Webster did, although he would rightly argue he saw exactly what he planned for).

Take the decision to stick with Taine Tuaupiki, we now have three NRL quality fullbacks, or the decision to stick with Metcalf, who showed he can throw an epic cut out ball when the game is on the line, or the cementing of Rocco Berry's tip on hot potato passes to Dallin.

We also saw that Lussick can be a more than passable hooker under Webster, and we still have some serious fire power to come back from injury to get us over the line in tight games.

Based off all my years of following the team, this is the first time in maybe forever where I am completely relaxed and excited about our top eight prospects, we are right on track for another finals appearance. We do need Shaun though, he is the best we have.

We managed to concede 12 points in the space of about 3 minutes. Regardless of how they did it, that's blowing it from us.

Nah I disagree completely

IMO 'blowing it' means that WE lost it. Give credit where credit it due man, they're calling it the greatest end to a game of all time. 2 GREAT tries at the end from a top team....

There's maybe 2 or 3 games that I've seen in the last 15 years that had a better ending to a game than that. Sometimes despite everything you do and how well you play, a freak play or two can take the game away from you.

That's what happened last night. Sometimes it's out of your control and those last few minutes the way the Storm were playing, was out of our control.

Well one thing with this game it at least decided the important issue of who is a better tackler Metcalfe or CHT. In all seriousness it was a great game of RL we witnessed last night. I was watching the first half thinking business as normal when we play the Storm. Then in the second half we were doing a Storm on the Storm.

Harry Grant the goon was so desperate he resorted to cheap trick that backfired. I was daring to believe we finally was about to beat those shitheads. We then saw perhaps one of the greatest tries scored in years for the Storm to win it of which I am 100% positive he scored. Really sucks but image if that game had been played at Vegas. It was two top 4 sides going at it last night and I think the better side lost due to a freak try.

Much more confident for the rest of the season after that epic match. Also thought Lussick, Ford and Tuaupiki really improved from last week.

Still not really sad or angry about the game after sleeping on it

We played only had 20 great minutes last week, and 40 great minutes last night and still only lost each game by 4

All the while missing two of our starting spine, who were nominated for Dally M Hooker and the Golden Boot last year, and our one true enforcer.

Still 25 rounds to go, We will be top 4 again this year, that’s for fucking sure.

it was my 18th birthday yesterday and i wanted nothing more than a warriors win @ aami park (last time warriors beat the storm i was in yr3 and now im finished school). That shit hurts my soul yk, i came back from a night out to watch the game with my nan and i really thought we had the game won but when coates scored, i started to cry yk. To me personally, a warriors win against the storm means more than any other team in the comp. farrr so close

but for as good as DWZ is on attack he hasn't a clue in Defence WTF was he going for Berrys guy(berry great defender 1 on 1) then being slightly off angle he run at Coates late ....

Storm knew which edge attack ... View attachment 6240

no fucking way that try would have happened on the left edge.... Montoya would have smashed him into last week

this is not a tackle .... had DWZ actually gone for his opposite body on body not hand tap ..look how far back berry tackle ended up ... DWZ was a weakest link and will continue to be

Never understood why some can only focus on what happens at the end of the chain instead of following it all the way infield to see where the chain actually broke in the first place.

It was a 4 on 3 overlap once Paps had got on the outside of Barnett (which was always going to be the case) this meant that entire edge from SJ, Rocco, and DWZ couldnt just drfit straight out onto their man or the ball carrier wouldve just waltzed through. They had to hold to allow the line time to recover then chase out. Which they actually did brilliantly.

The only criticism i could cast DWZ way (which tbh is just waay too picky ) is that he shouldve known Coates only option was to go high and his target area was probably too low.....but fuck me thats harsh to a absolute freak of a play.Screenshot (1).webp

Sharp analysis - on point.

When it takes the try of the year, probably the best corner try ever scored (it is up there with Manu carrying four defenders over the line) to beat a team, you know that team is bad ass.

I keep thinking how the Muss and pretty boy CNK, Egan too, would have watched that second half and thought fuck me....we are awesome...wait till I get back.

I bet Webster was thrilled about the second half and came away from last night even more confident that he can win this comp.

My lasting memory of this game will be the arrival of Taine Tuaupiki, the way he turned defence into attack against the best Melbourne had was world class.

Berry is becoming a world class center. He has proved that his tip ons are no fluke, they are an actual tool in his kit, and when you have a winger like Dallin that is the Center you want on the three quarter line.

Another important milestone last night was that left edge constructing a try purely off their own work, Roger running good lines, Metcalf firing a hell of a pass to Montoya who hit it like he was on the training paddock at Mt Smart, opposition coaches would have sat up seeing a Warriors left edge start to pull some surgical shit.

Webster just needs to keep being a genius, the rest of us just need to believe.

I believe, fuck me, first time since nineteen ninety five that I REALLY believed we have great club.

Yeah we lost to a desperate Storm and it hurt, but that hurt is gone from my heart because for the first time in a long time the Warriors were hunting the Storm and giving them a hiding for a half of footy.

Brother im more confident than ever after that 40 minutes of footy (well 38 i suppose) in which we dominated a very good team that even made the Premieres look ordinary last week, we'll be there or thereabouts.

Barring the loss this was similar to me to the Sharks game last year and we just build from here. Gutting loss but that performance should give the boys confidence moving forward (which im pretty sure was what Shaun wouldve been re-iterating at the end there), and as u know confidence to a Warriors team makes us a dangerous outfit.

Just to be clear I haven't watched every minute of every game these first 2 rounds, but have seen 20-60 minutes of all matches so far.

Maybe I'm talking shit, but our 20 minutes last week and 50 minutes this week looked the best out of any teams I've watched.

A lot of teams have scored some great tries or there were a few 5-10 minute periods that looked great, but man when we got into that grind against the Storm at Melbourne and shut them down for 50 minutes we looked well oiled, methodical and relentless.

Those 20 minutes against the Sharks I thought our attack looked dangerous and could be anything. While we weren't able to go on with the job, we could have easily scored 2 or 3 more tries, but Rd 1 cobwebs stopped us from clicking.

Penrith looked good this weekend too, but yeah I dunno maybe I'm just being biased but I think we're going to see a special year
