This blog entry is devoted to second teams. Who is your second NRL team? How long have they been your second team. Excluded from the scope of this discussion, although they are legitimate answers is the NSW cup team or Wahine team.

I am leaning towards making it the Tigers since they were kind enough to give us one of their home games last year in response to our COVID sacrifice but also don't really want a celler dweller team. My goal for picking a second team is to have a second bite at the cherry that weekend if the warriors lose as they can't win every week.

Who is your second team? Feel free to big them up and suggest I should follow them too as I would like advice on who to follow and who not to follow.

Do you think having a second team is a good idea? What are the pitfalls if any? What happens when your second team plays the Warriors?

Discuss...who should I follow as my second team?

Manly for me, my dad always loved the broncos with Langer and Tallis but for me a team of Cliff lyons Geoff toovey Steve menzies Des hasler Solomon haumono was something special.
Even a prime Ridge, i was gutted at Terry Lamb smashed us in 95 grand final, the Pepsi jersey and little Toovey are fond memories for me.

Manly for me also
I had just moved to OZ and I had previously played against Mark Broadhurst and he was playing for Manly
Only reason

Raiders. Aside from Sticky being the most likeable bloke in league, they played in & won the greatest grand final of all time (1989), coming from 5th spot as the underdogs with a bunch of no name players that within a a couple of years became all time greats & arguably the best team of the modern era.

Fast forward 3 decades & they are in a premiership draught only exceeded in length by the Eels, they’re top of the table despite still in many ways being underdogs with very few ‘name’ players. Get on board Wrighty!!

I’ve kinda tried a couple of times to have a ‘second’ team but it’s never stuck- I really don’t give a shit about any other team and most teams I dislike for a few reasons. Few teams im ‘meh’ about but really can’t stand;
Storm, Bunnies, Sharks,Cows,Broncos,Dogs- panthers are getting there, Dragons fans can get a bit stuck in the past and over estimate themselves and Canberras getting a bit unlikeable this year

The Doggies
I have been a Dogs fan since the 80s. Since before the Warriors were thought of
But definitely as a second team since 95. Although I used to emotionally have a dollar each way watching live at the Caketin in Wellington when the Dogs had home games against the Warriors
And because I love a hopeless case (30 years a Warriors fan) I watch the Tigers a bit too

Mine should be the Bronco's as they were my team before the Warriors. No connection once all those 90s players retired tho.....now their just a bunch of show ponies.

Id go Dolphins now. Purely cause they play a attacking style of game i love watching and have strike all over the park. Their probably a Fonua Blake or Fisher Harris level prop away from being real contenders imo.

Tigers arent a bad way to go. Their pretty inoffensive.......until they start winning.....then their pricks again.
