Children would go door to door begging for eggs in the same fashion kids go asking for treats at Halloween.
Why eggs? because they were banned during Lent.

Easter Bunnies came from Lutheran Germans, the Eastern hare was a judge of children's character, in the same fashion that Santa and the naughty and nice thing works.

Pennsylvanian immigrants from Germany had a tradition that combines the Bunny and the Egg, an Egg laying bunny.....
