NRL Referees

Just a thought but maybe make the bunker manning a mixture of referees and ex players. Could be interesting
I just think its a fundamental flaw with the bunker idea which is that sports arent ever planned to the letter of the law there is a feel to it. Put a player in there they still have to make it off the actual rule. I wanna go back to 2 refs on field and a bunker only on request (challenge and by ref for tries) let the on field ref go and they can make the judgement.

Alternatively just make everything go up unless its the most obvious try every. Its really the nit picking and taking tries away that is annoying.

Personally I think it would go a long way, to ban players getting in the ear of the refs all game.

Only captains challenges.

If you need clarification of the rules, do it on your own time. Otherwise, piss off.

If you have two referees on the field I would do this.
Control referee hovers near the ruck all game.
The other referee marks the 10..
When the ball changes hands the referees swap roles.
You have an extra set of ours to be better in line to adjudicate forward passes and off side at kicks and challenges in the air for the ball.
The bunker should only be there to review the captains challenge which should be increased to two and review tries at normal speed only.
There should be a panel of 5 in the bunker and they go with the majority.
Contests in the air where both players pretty much simultaneously touch the ball should be play on.

Still think the bunker is a waste of time. Causes more issues than it is worth. I posted earlier we should just have a group of elite referees who are well trained and paid on the same basis as elite players. but make it match payments.
With the big bucks comes accountability so, occasionally you will get it wrong but lets make the ref the sole judge and arbiter (like it was in my early yawnion days) and everyone accepts that.
I would stand up on Monday morning and say: sorry guys, got that one wrong and I expect to be refereeing SG ball next week with the appropriate payment reduction
Another thing that bugs me, the ref awards a try (or disallows) and then 2 mins later the bunker steps in. Do they come in even if the ref has made a call and hasn't asked for their assistance? Weird

I totally agree with you, probably only thing is altho there should be accountability we should let them make mistakes. The players do all the time so really if we want a fast game with minimal interference we need to accept some ref mistakes.

That being said howlers and repeated mistakes should still have accountability / consequences and we should go back to either the referee press conference on Monday where they at-least explain the ideas behind the calls.
