Good to see AKP getting tries, but he's a bit Dallin '25 on defence. Got to trust his centre a bif more, given his positioning contributed to both of Isaako's tries. Webby alluded to it in the presser, when a journo asked about Lofi's scoring rate. A talented finisher but, "He is still learning our defensive patterns..."

Good he gets found out now and fix it, that’s quite an easy one to work on

Well looks like all 4 Dolphins fans are super bummed about the loss.

Run meters

Ford will get 6 dally m with 57 tackles 206m

Funny Boyd ran over 100m, he and Leka are not combining well on that side 67m. Ali only 50m?

Barney 116m in 30min
Boyd was having to take the line on a lot in this game with the Dolphins defense rushing up to shut the play from getting to our edges. Have to give credit to them, they pushed us hard in this game.

We had 55% possession 11 errors 7 penalties, definitely made it hard for ourselves, probably should have won by 20, clinical the main thing this week
If only both our centers could run 100m+

Possibly controversial,, but is Laban worth it on the bench? He started the year as a starter, and i get that he is still young and developing. Feel like im ready to see more of EIT in his spot whilst he goes to Cup. Surely cant do him any harm to go down and work on his game whilst we get to see more of EIT.

Also think Leka provides more impact off the bench, but suspect Webster is getting him more gametime to develop his defense under fatigue. 3 penalties, 3 errors and a 33/41 tackles prob suggests he needs some sort of a break rather than another 80 min stint.

Were the crowd singing the ‘na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye’ song with 10 minutes to go, or was I hearing things?

There was a bit of biff in the crowd, the ladies got involved and threw some haymakers - police came up and escorted them out. That’s why the crowd was singing. Ours was a rowdy corner. Chips and a couple of cans thrown on when Ali got knocked out. The team song at the end and the anthems were a highlight. Good to hear Wellington singing again!

3 of them are probably bots

Strange game - we played reasonably well - we competed high completion, good defence, seemed to play to a game plan but we just looked...tired?
I cant quite put my finger on it.

DWZ has been down on running meters compared to last night, Roger was quieter than usual running meters and with AKP you lose some of those hard carries so I wonder if its been that? We were slow playing the ball today too

Taine and Clark were exceptional imo.

Looks like the bye is coming at the right time for us

Bit harsh that Taine's average rating is like 7. Thought he was close to MOTM tonight. Safe as houses under the high ball, running 200+m and scored the match winning try.

Agree with most here that it certainly was one of our most scratchiest wins. But I thought it was a good learning experience for us. We have to learn to win ugly and I thought Tannah stepped up well in the moment to kick the match winning goal.

Phins are also probably the strongest opponent we've beaten this year. They are top 4 quality when they get it together. They have clearly aimed up the last 2 weeks against us and the riff. They would have beaten most teams in the comp tonight. So this was a good win, especially given how off we were tonight.

league crowds always have more energy, both good and bad. Way more fun than any super rugby game where people are hardly making noise!

Also, should we be a bit concerned that the last 2 weeks weve only scored 6 points in each 2nd half? Deffo seem to be running out of puff.
If we can scrape a win next week youd have to give us an A+ start to the year.

I was struggling to see where wed get 3 wins in our first 9. Happy to say I was very wrong

Last week was strong wind and this week they messed up post line breaks, also second half is when we see 50% of young Healey he has that weird Mahoney shuffle that kills the time for the backs

One thing that's encouraging so far is that when we win, not everyone is on fire. Some do extra carries, tackles, efforts etc. Some are consistently high in output and achievement. Some are sublime in smaller quantities. Some are middle average glue guys.

There seems to be room for all those types of players. But wait until we all fire for a whole game. Let that be the grand final if we make it. Thus far top two is pretty spesh.

Thankful for the win

Thankful DWZ brain dead errors in not playing the ball properly and mouthing off to the ref giving away a penalty didn’t cost us the game cause I was ready to unleash ….

Taine also had a poor one. CNK back next week. And we go again
Yep Taine's best offer was his metres gained.

*Edit. I would not put CNK back unless it's at fullback or desperation lock.

Been a long time since seen the cake tin like that, conditions were as good as your going to get for night game.

We were sitting in line with a speaker setup, that shit was deafening, every break in play music blaring out makes it hard for the crowd to generate its own atmosphere.

The 6 again is a nightmare live, no idea why or why not they are called

Phins were up for it, lots of laying down, tried every trick in the book.

Them losing their 6, they moved Herbie there, he cut back in every single time and killed all their attacks going out towards the makeshift halasima edge
Tbf it's the same at home. "Ruck infringement" basically every time flashes up and you've still got no idea what has actually happened. The commentators don't even bother trying to interpret it either lol.

I've watched four games this round so far and it does seem like there have been less given overall than previous rounds. Not sure if that's down to teams getting used to it and being a bit quicker at getting off and other bits of discipline, or the league has told the refs to be a bit more lenient due to all the criticism.

I thought TT was brilliant offensively last night and looked great under the high ball.

However, and I don't know if anyone else would agree, I think we look better defensively co-ordinated when Charnze plays. Whether that's down to him, or just better familiarity and trust, I don't know.

It's a hard pick each week and I think it really comes down to who we are playing against and what we will need there.

I think I had the same reaction as you when the draw first came out and saw we are playing the Roosters, Raiders, Storm, Sharks and Phins all in the first 8 weeks. Ex-ante these were all viewed as top 4 contenders. But other than the chooks, the other teams have really stunk it up. All of these teams could get their act together of course as they generally do towards the end of the year. But at the moment, it kind of looks like we have had an easy start to the year if you look back in a retrospective way.

Being 6-2 right now and outright 2nd (we are the only team on 12pts with 6 wins), is an A+ for me too, especially given that we won't be back home until rd 15. We have Parra (A), bye, Broncos (H), Dragons (A), Penrith (H), bye. If we are 9-3 or 10-2 heading into our 2nd bye, another push for the top 4 seems well within our grasp.
