An also interested in the try where his ball carrying arm hit the ground. I mean he had so much momentum that you really want that to be a try and it probably should be, but by the letter of the law he is tackled once the ball carrying arm hits the ground and someone is touching him right?
Should the ref have discretion to apply common sense for that one or does it open up all kinds of grey areas and they should just stick to the letter of the law?
When Webster was asked about this in the press conference he said it was a try. He said Taine had fallen off the tackle. I thought the same.

It's a try every day of the week. Nothing to see there

The NRL need to sort out the HiA rule with high contact. How can a video ref determine no serious head contact and then a doctor rule a potential concussion from the contact. Madness

That's the result of the independent doctor.

The doc examines the hit, he has no interest in any rulings from officals.

It's not an issue for dudes that don't stay down. Healey stayed down wanting a penalty, didn't get it.

The Sharks are a top 8 team at home and were comfortable favourites with the bookies going into the game. It’s not unexpected we lost or a dagger for our season.

We have done well against the Sharks previously by getting forward dominance and field possession forcing Hynes and Trindall to play off the back foot which neither of them is particularly good at. We made too many silly errors gifting them field possession which cost us.

Agreed, also played a bit wide should have focused more on our strengths.
Dominant middles and defensive pressure (altho not sure about the second atm)

Two fave calls from Hawkes Bay extended fam of Yawnion diehards during game:
Father in law… “Did Zelensky just score another one?” He insisted on calling him Watony-Zelensky the whole game. I didn’t see Putin or Trump take the field but there’s always next week. 🤣

THEN

Nephew… “How good are the Granola Sharks?” The breakfast jokes just flowed from there. Eventually though the yoghurt and fruit was all over the Warriors and we were the ones being served in a bowl. 😂

What a let down.
An abundance of players to select from but Webby chopped and changed winning combinations and we got found out.
Defence was a shambles at times, broken staggered lines and in attack little depth and lateral at times.
We need a reset.

Na AKP has earnt a call up, Roger has been real poor this year
There was a little break down RTS edge and I thought at the time if that was AKP he would have turned that into a runaway try, RTS did his signature sidestep into the tackle when it needed a swerve and speed... He's been very disappointing this year his errors have cost us points... It's hard because there's no easy answer because we know AKP defense is not great

Changing half the spine in the middle of a winning streak not a great idea but I can see why webby tried it, now pick a full back and pick a half back and live with it. Metcalf out, easy one there boyd plays. If CNK is out, Taine holds 1. When/if all are fit, don’t tweak or tinker. CNK or TT for fullback and Metcalf or Boyd for halfback.

Laban looks like he needs a spell out of the starting side, we miss Capewells effort plays. Roger should be given a respectful warning that if he drops another stinker it’s AKPs turn. Long season, we’ve shown we can play well but feels like clockwork with us, whenever we look really good and the media start saying as much, we turn to custard

How good were the all blacks of late? That us vs them stuff is absolutely tiresome. Springboks, France, England and Ireland have all had the better of us for some time.

I don’t know if you can afford to keep Taine there. The starts of our sets have lost all momentum. He gets dominated and driven back on the kick return, making plays 2 and 3 much more difficult. He brings a lot of good things, but unless you are dominant and he can dish off the kick return to a winger it sets things back

Boyd could well become our first choice now with Metcalf continuing to show inability to avoid injury. My view was Metcalf would get the 7 jersey back at some stage after getting some game time at 6, but this could change everything? Think it’s essential to get that combination that was winning with CHT back at 6 and stick with it. This could be hugely deflating for Metcalf too and at some point must ponder his future? The club could be having some hard discussions too? Just watching on, I don’t think Boyd or Metcalf gets us our title and think it’s essential Jack Thompson gets as much nsw cup as possible

That's probably the only knock I have on Taine, and theres nothing he can really do to change it because you can't magically get bigger.

There were two times from memory yesterday when he took the 2nd to last play of the set one of the ruck, got man handled as he does, glacial play the ball and a completely stand still kick from Boyd under a heap of pressure due to no momentum leading to a poor kick.

Admittedly thought at the time, that's not happening to a medium size fullback.

Then on the other side of the coin, are we getting some of the trys we have without Taine there as the sweeper. Given what we've seen of CNK of his long stint, i'm not sure we do.

Both lack in a certain area. So it's essentially pick your poison.
