NRL NRL Round 4 2026 Discussion

For sure.

I mean; two premierships, an SoO series and Pacific Championship series under your belt would be the definition of a successful coach, in most normal peoples eyes right?
two premierships with two different clubs, a SoO series on your first try that probably should have been a sweep, plus the Kiwis role.

It feels like the Broncos players think that because they have won it last year they can do it again without putting in the required work and focus to do so.

Maybe?

I mean they started pretty slow last year too, so it's not like a drastic shift in the way the bronx have done stuff under Madge.
That’s true, but the blow up with the assistant Ben Te’o further goes into an over the top character though. This happens at other clubs, but Maguire already has this known trait. On the flip side, he has two premierships and runs on the board internationally and soo. Rumours broncos have reached out to Brad Thorn to come onboard as an assistant coach and would probably be of value with some runs on the board as opposed to someone starting out like Te’o who may not garner the same respect for their opinion? Though it’s viewed Te’o’s defensive coaching has been a big factor to their success from what I’ve seen

Apparently Te'o was clashing heads with Madge last year, too.

Maybe, maybe not. Their defense didn't win them anything under Walters, so I'm not as convinced of this.

I think there was A LOT of loyalty (from anyone who's not making the hiring decisions at the Donkies) to Walters and Madge is copping it because he is the replacement.

Madge is renown for being a hard ass, but they're lording the Hass leaving over his head, when he's been talking about it for four years.

Combine that with NSW going back to their losing ways without Madge and you've got a pretty good intent to hate the guy.

It's just pathetic.

The fact is that the coach is at the mercy of results and an underperforming team puts pressure on a guy where there’s already some public scrutiny. They came right last year so the hope will be that the same can be achieved, and I’m sure it can. Maguire is a great coach and the Kiwis thrived under him, but also the broncos is a club where I would imagine there’s plenty of player power, and I’m going to be interested next year how a strong figure like Barnett asserts himself into Carrigan’s team as a leader? Really interested to see what broncos follow up last season’s success with, being fresh off a premiership I wouldn’t imagine Maguire is under any pressure currently though

There's a reason why Madge wants Barney. It'll be a similar reason why we wanted JFH.

His value is on supporting the coaches focus on implementing and getting other players to buy into the culture shift.

Short of it is that Barney's values in constant work line up with Madges. Most broncos fans don't seem to get this.

The broncos may well look VERY scary next year.... provided Madge isn't canned by then.

If Barnett being interested in going to knights for $650k is true, it tells me broncos isn’t his first choice. Though that could well be rubbish and either way he’ll definitely put in no matter what. I’m surprised that it doesn’t get much attention his injury history since joining us, he’s absolute quality but there’s a risk there. I think he’s done well with this contract

Let's face it, any club would be lucky to have him. You can call it 'Wah's bias', but his impact was seen in origin too.

Personally, I would guess his age is more of a concern. But again, in my eyes, his on field impact is secondary to the culture impact he brings.

Both the Knights and the Broncos need an elevation in mental toughness. You pay whatever to get a leader who's good at promoting this quality.

Here's a question for you that demonstrates where I'm getting at. When did Barney his game to the elite level he's at now? Was it before or after a preseason with JFH?

Whole team > one player.

I’ve been interested in reading the sharks forum over the past few days and their fans commenting on the regression of AFB and how in some of theirs view we utilised him better, almost making him X factor in how we were doing it. Barnett owes a lot to his own determination and drive to where he’s gotten, but I don’t believe he becomes the player he is without ever joining Warriors, whether that be the coaching or belief in him, it’s paid dividends

Hard to fly like a bird, when everyone around you is a turkey.

You could say that about a few players that we've picked up along the way... *cough* Dally M Jackson *cough*

Agree, and that’s why I keep saying that I think character goes a long way in our recruitment and why I referenced AFB. I believe he’s a natural talent, but not hard worker, though that’s only my observations and nothing to confirm that
