NRL NRL Round 4 2026 Discussion

Must be carnage in the forum knockout competition!

Weekend of the upset.

Looks like Panthers are going to pull well away at the top of the ladder.

I swear every time he's about to get the sack, Payten strings a run of form to escape the noose. Can't say I'm disappointed: they made the storm look eminently beatable tonight. Was super pissed on Friday but yesterday made me feel a bit better about what happened to us. Even very good sides like the storm and dogs slip up in this competition and taking your eye off the ball is an occupational hazard in the NRL. All in all, 4 rounds in is way too early to make judgment calls. Even Penrith will be made to look mortal at some pt (hopefully by us). So all these calls that they will run away with this comp are way too premature.

All things considered, I think we are in a better position despite our loss than most in this comp. Bringing Mets back was always going to put the handbrakes on to some degree. Especially given that we are talking about two players in TB and Mets who want to run the team. Bringing him in v Tigers as opposed to the Storm was probably still the right call. Once we get that dynamic right, the tigers game will probably just be seen as what it is: a blip in the radar on an otherwise strong start to the year.

So no need to panic, we are still well positioned in this comp. In a way it was a good ting to get the first loss out of the way.

Roger put in a dud while WW scores 4 😂

Pick it up Dodge make Cameron regret not giving you Japanese money!

He has been a consistent performer for us for the last few years but his head clearly wasn't in the game last night. That 10 min period before half time lost us the game as I thought up till that pt we were the far superior team. We had navigated the sin period well and we were well on top physically. Then after the dummy half stuff up after Ford played the ball, we just completely lost the plot. It wasn't really the tigers playing well, we were just a bit cocky I felt and thought it would just come easily to us.

Take that 10 min period out of the game and we go into HT with a comfortable lead and probably go onto win. But in a way it is good that we lost. It would not have been good for us to think we can get away with a performance like that.

Yep rewatching;

16 points in 7 minutes is diabolical at the worst of times. First halftime lead in 21 years at Mt Smart! was the report.

Ofren tries on the stroke of halftime are telling and the pudding effort to let Hunt score was an omen.

it's only one performance. It's only a trend to be worried about if it happens again next week. I just feel that we got a bit high on ourselves this week with all the talk about Dally M Jacko and TB ripping it up and us being the no 2 team behind Penrith. On top of that, RTS seems to have been slightly distracted with all the contract stuff. They are all professionals, but they are only human to have these things on their minds as well.

Webby isn't the sort of person to scream at the team like Bellyache does. But I get the feeling that he doesn't have to: Barney and JFH are probably both seething at that performance and will get the playing group to rip in this week. This team has made significant strides but the reality is we haven't won jack yet. We aren't at the level of Penrith yet. That day may come to pass but until it does, we can't be turning up this complacent, especially at home, ever again.

It would be such a warriors thing to lose to the Tigers at home and then ace the Sharks and Melbourne away. But I wouldn't put it past this team based on how Cronulla and the Storm are going atm.

The Storm face the Panthers next week so they may face us having lost 3 in a row

The last time they did that was in rounds 16-18 in 2022

We can take heart because in Round 19 they also lost making it 4 losses in a row!

Whether you visibly handle the sin bin period well or not, at the end of the day you are still scrambling harder for 10mins to cover the space left for the man in the bin. That holds extra weight in this touch rugby six again era.

Player comes back on, uhhh we handled that, few players release the valve a bit. Woops three tries it 10mins to finish the half. Momentum seems to dissapear in the blink of an eye this season, and the Tigers aren't the Tigers of old.

Hard to argue that the Sin bin period is the reason why RTS drops 2 balls in 2 sets leading to 2 tries and 16 pts in 7 minutes. Especially when he had no problem diffusing them for the 33 mins prior, including during the sin bin period. It's also not an excuse we should cop for the subsequent drop-off in performance across other players, some of whom weren't even on the field during the sin bin period.

So for a team that is aiming as high as we are, that's not an excuse that we should accept and probably not one that webby does. Knights had to navigate something similar with Dylan Lucas also having a similar brain explosion in that game, tackling a dogs player wanting a quick 20m restart. They navigated that just fine, repelling the dogs all half and going to the break 16-0 up. We could/ should have done the same. In fact we were on track to do so before the 33rd minute.

Sharks for the win. Be good for our focus if we go into next week playing a winning side with all the Sydney centric media hyping the Sharks.

Raiders will prolly give the Sharks a hiding but....

I'm interested in the middle performance of Canberra without big pappa here at home. Last time against us, we rolled them comprehensively through the middle. Let's see if they aim up this time against another good pack in Cronulla.
