NRL Round Discussion NRL Round 12, 2026 Discussion

I suppose that makes sense.

Risky manouevure, I'd imagine. Huge risk of burning your players out, right?

For sure, especially if you pick up a few injuries in the process due to a lack of rest and recovery.

On the flip side, use your byes too early and you face needing to play 10+ weeks in a row to win a premiership.

*shrugs* probably no perfect solution.

so that's a wrap to another weekend we remain in 2nd. The start to this year has been crazy and we have seen quite a lot of movement in the top 4 already with tigers, knights, bunnies and manly all spending time in the 4 at some pt this year. But other than Penrith we have been the only side to have been there since day one: we have now spent 11/12 weeks inside the top 4 and 9/12 weeks inside of the top 2. That's an incredible feat if you think about it.

The scheduling is just all kinds of fucked. It's ridiculous that some teams have had their second bye, before the cows have their first.

Like, what kind of brain dead scheduler allows for that?
Weren’t their touting their AI model for doing it not that long ago.

I get its a big job but surely they can at least have human look over it and give the final tick of approval.

Andrew Abdo has resigned as chief executive of NRL.

Abdo, who was appointed as the head of the NRL in April 2020, is believed to have taken up a position with Tennis Australia after the departure of their chief executive Craig Tiley.

His departure is a huge blow to the game. Rugby league has flourished on Abdo’s watch as he and ARL Commission chair Peter V’landys have driven the game to new heights.

After initially being appointed on an interim basis following Todd Greenberg’s exit in April 2020, Abdo was given the job permanently in September that year.

His partnership with V’landys has been one of the most successful in Australian sport. Together, they have presided over a period in which rugby league’s finances have skyrocketed — the game is now on the verge of crashing through the $1 billion barrier in terms of annual revenue.

They have also overseen a period of expansion headlined by an history $600 million partnership with the Australian and PNG governments which will see a team based out of Port Moresby for the 2028 season.

Before then, a new team will be added in Perth next season. His departure comes at a critical juncture given the NRL is locked in talks with broadcasters over a new dealer the 2028 season.

The game’s current broadcasting deal expires at the end of next year and broadcasters have been asked to put forward their best offers as the game closes in on the biggest deal in its history.

What a random, random change. Higher profile at tennis?

Maybe he doesn't like how things are looking for the Perth Bears? and or PNG? get out before the expansion merely adds two new Dragons sides?

These guys are not sport specific, Cam George came from racing, Ian Robson that left us has been in ESL, AFL, Rowing and other crap.

Moffatt was NZRFU then NRL yadda yadda

But who has a bye when and whether it’s fair for a team to have two before another team has any is not important when scheduling games. The schedule is ruled by TV ratings. Nine pay the NRL the big bucks.

I think that might be the case.
The expansions good. But Perth looked dicked. Last vegas doesn't do anything for me.
If anything the games grown so much because of Covid funnily enough.
One of the only sports being played during. And the subsequent rise of the wahs pulling in heaps more NZ fans.
Not much imo. Has been done by Abdo...
