NRL Round Discussion NRL Round 12, 2025 Discussion

It's odd with broadcasters, if you organize 3 byes for all the teams around origin (1 bye followed by 2 rounds) and make SOO the main events for those by rounds, and make teams play 9 game stretches either side, you don't lose any games and revenue. How's this even a thing, you get more games in other weeks by clearing 3 weekends for SOO.

All the arguments Tallis was making about giving new players a go for benefits later in the year, lol, tell that to the Panthers and Roosters struggling to even make the playoffs, or dogs trying to hold these games with a tough draw later on. Even the MLB (baseball) clears the week for All Star games, must be some kinda tough guy alpha promo for the league where they make players play 2 games in 3-4 days (club/origin)

And now the whole format has to change because they’ve got injuries, suspensions and lost some players to origin
I've been away travelling for work. I got home last night and caught up on the last few nights of NRL360. Yes, I'm a sucker for punishment and relax seeing a bunch of old men shouting at clouds.

Rothfield brought up the number of players each team has out and their byes.

He was questioning why the Warriors have two byes before State of Origin. Each team has one on a standard week. Trying to move those so certain teams have their bye before or after Origin creates it's own problems. Teams then get a longer run of games until they get a bye. The Origin stacked teams might prefer them before and some after. So, again it won't be perfect.

The other thing he missed with the two byes is it looks like he counted the week off from Vegas. The reason why I assumed that is the ladder only has Storm, Cowboys, Dragons, Titans with two byes. The only other week off we had was after Vegas.

Mind you, from memory, his list of teams didn't match the above, so god knows where he got his information from. You would think that as a journalist, all of the stats, etc., would be available, or he could delegate to someone. He probably wrote that article after his 6th glass of wine.

I know it’s an in popular time but Origin really needs to be at the end of the season with the rest of the rep calendar.
Got no love for the Dogs or their fans but can’t help but think the Phins got a bit of a reffing leg up this week after a week of crying foul in the media, the forward pass no try to make it 8-8 was a bit of a momentum shifter
I'd prefer stand-alone weekends or at the end of the season. Watching the weaker sides run around, I do find my interest is a bit less on those weekends.

The argument against stand-alone weekends that fans miss their club sides is a bit weak. When was the last time it was done? That would be old information.

Stop the comp and play Origin and some internationals would means we need to sort out the eligibility. The players do seem to be choosing 💙 Mighty NSW/QLD Morons vs international sides. Not if they want to play for Australia or not.

The other issue would be clubs complaining about players getting injured. They have that with Origin, but I'd say there could be selection issues like the end of the year internationals if they add more games.

I'm in favour of shortening the competition and finding time for rep games.

Eh, with two more teams coming in, there will be plenty of players to go around. In the long run, this actually benefits the teams that have Origin players — the more representative football someone plays, the better they become, especially at leading their teams in high-pressure situations or those big rounds (finals footy).
Players might also prefer it this way. Those selected for Origin usually go on to play international footy (except for the kiwis who pick state over country), so extending the season further would eat into that time, or worse, shorten their break from footy altogether.

And for the players who don't play, you'd be taking away there chance to play in 1st grade or go into bigger leadership roles. And instead put them into a mini "pre season", which would not be fun.

Personally, I have no issue with Origin being held in the same week as regular games. I’m not a fan of skipping normal matches just for Australia-only showcase games as a fan.

re-watched the highlights of the dogs v phins game, as i enjoyed it live so much - quite glaring deficiencies in numbering up in the line from the dogs, which is odd, as it should be down to tracey and other spine members to organise this, and they weren't missing any of their first choices ... i tihnk they may have some issues....

They strike me as a half time pep talk, type of team.

If you can weather that burst of energy, they kind of don't have a lot of answers.

Most teams are fairly close as well and it only takes one thing to shift any momentum. That forward pass call against the Dogs was a real game changer. You can argue its only one moment and that didn't make the Dogs fall of tackles or concede points etc but it is huge at the time. That gets given, and IMO should have, it brings the score back to 8-8 (edit: it was to take them to 14-20) from memory and the Dogs have their tails up and the Dolphins started doubting themselves. In the conditions in that game and the context of the game at the time it was a significant call.

20:8 at the time so kinda snuffed out their comeback lol

Funny watching the different style Ciraldo has at the press conference to Webby

3 more games before the Raiders have their first bye! 🤣 That is a long time without a week off!

That's what is weird for you? Your post seemed to be inferring something like you cant be a true warriors fan if you haven't tipped us or somehow think I want us to lose or something else? Your post was based on me not picking us 7 times this season, two times we got smashed, 4 times we won by the smallest of margins and the other we were backing up from Vegas which was a complete reversal of that game in the end despite a very unconvincing start. Hardly compelling stuff I would have thought. I do think its going to be another close game but based on no Barnett and Fish I think the Raiders will win it in the middle. I mean, feel free to post counter points or different takes on things if you want but yeah, there wasn't a lot of room left with the post you made other than to defend myself. What I find weird is that there is the facility here for you and others to post your own thoughts on the game or games, or a rebuttal to posts others have made and instead seem to prefer making a post like you did. Each to their own.
Hey tajhay can we have a thread called (boxing ring) where Tookey and Inruin can go slug it out along with any others who have a personal bitch? That would keep this and many other threads on track.
