Damn I saw something about Haas on one of my social media feeds. Only caught a glmipse of it as I was putting the phone down. Thought it was from one of those joke posters.
A big signing to kick off the season. I know it is from next year but when these hit early there is often speculation. It will also create a lot of discussion.
From his point of view he has a premiership now. Get the money he needs to support his family. If Souths turn around while he's there maybe they can push for another one.

Bennett has come along way from the days where he released Petero Civoniceva as front rowers will never earn $400k or whatever it was.
Times have changed as the salary cap has gone up. Even then Haas would still be taking up more of what $400k was back then.
Also different situation as the Broncos would have been going well back then during Bennett's first stint at the club. I don't think they had missed the finals for a while and were only a few years off the 2006 premiership.
Two different types as well. Not sure of the exact age comparison but Haas is the top end in terms of front rowers and is a unique talent. He is a handful to tackle, mobile and plays big minutes.

Great get for Rabbitohs. Wonder what the background to this signing will be that’ll come out over coming days, as pretty sure he said he wasn’t leaving Brisbane due to mother being locked up for her mis-deeds, and him needing to look after his younger siblings. Wonder if mum’s due for release and wanting to move out of Q’land to start afresh?? Doubt he’s fallen out with the team as reportedly signed for $1.2m which is bout what he’s rumoured to be on now. Gotta say I would’ve thought Haas was Brisbane for life

Could be the Bennett factor? Both Haas and Fifita played under him at broncos. Already Maguire copping grief with speculation about him working them too hard again. People saying he cost rabbits Burgess and now Haas, but they forgetting he has premierships at each club

Jonah Pezet should be ready to take over after a season at eels. Broncos will have some money to spend with Reynolds and Haas gone? Hunt could be not far off following Reynolds too?

Very trustworthy poster on sharks forum reckons now that Haas salary is $1.5-$1.6 million per year. Like they say that Bennett often has a habit of leaving salary caps in a mess. Someone could become available because they’ll likely need a halve at some point too with Walker on limited time but you’d think something would have to give with Haas, Mitchell, Fifita, Murray, Arrow, Smith all on decent salaries

I think that's the right call from the Broncos TBH. If he is willing to move cities because he is able to break a contract, odds on he is currently thinking that he will not be looking to see out his deal. Might get 1 or 2 years out of him the Bunnies, but if they have the cash to use it's a no brainer to get him.
NRL really needs to sort these contracts out, but they clearly don't want too.

Does seem odd to shift for the same money? I guess other challenges could be a factor having won a title at broncos? Potentially Bennett too? Apparently David Fifita and Latrell Mitchell had a big bearing on his decision
