After Lomax left the Eels and they hit the market, I assumed they would have spent the cap space that was allocated for him. They even signed an outside back. Sure the players the replace likely may not be on equal amount but his and Brown's money could be spread across a few players.
If you look at some of the players speculated they would want in return. Utoikamanu and Xavier Coates would be simular value. If they can fit them within their cap, do they have enough available to take Lomax back? If they do it is telling that they aren't.
An article a few days ago had the Storm offering compensation. The Eels wanted something that would improve their performances on the field. Fair enough, they have the contract (terms of release) in their favour.
The compensation wasn't very much. Think it was $200k for a player, likely on $800k. If the compensation was higher they could use it to upgrade facilities, invest in pathways. Money left over buy the players a flash toilet that airs out you bum afterways and get it branded as the Lomax. Okay, I took a bit of liberties on the last one, I'm a bit too petty to run a club.
