So gutted with this news as he was having the best season of his career.

I had mixed feelings at the announcement of his signing at the time as he'd served a lengthy suspension and questioned his discipline, but was so wrong to have such doubts. His professionalism since joining the club has been outstanding. Here's hoping for many more games in the Warriors colours, but even now he deserves to be held in the same esteem as club legends like Campion, Wiki and Price.

Season derailing that. Devastating. Thought we we had momentum towards a shot of the trophy this year. No question best prop in the game right now behind Haas.

JFH needs to lift now. Its been Barney that's replaced AFB's elite production.
I think that everyone has to lift especially the young guys. More time and we should/have to cover for the loss.
Fords workrate is amazing
Not always perfect but he really covers a lot of errors and misses.
More time for Laban will help and Bunty sharing time. We obviously will miss Barnett but most teams will have the same misfortune.

Rapidly pivoting here....

Ok....truth is we were never much of a chance of winning the competition this year.

Our realistic best case scenario would have seen us go deep into the finals then get smashed as soon as we ran into the like of the Storm or Panthers reloaded or having to beat one too many of say a Raiders and Sharks finals draw back to back.... you feel me....

So this need not derail the best case scenario for this year at all.

Think about it, the team consolidates from here, keeps doing what it has been doing which is basically sharing the work load and being honest toilers.

Big challenges ahead now but hey lets be brutally honest....what do we have to lose?
Yeah we should look at the positives here and that's to continue to promote within I'm sure the next prop coming in if it's stowers smith, Ale, even Lussicks be mint in cup will do the job.
But yeah a team with Dwz on the edges isn't going to beat the storm or the Raiders easily.

Yeah now Barnett is gone, I think our GF equivalence or dream goal should be to make the top four and be competitive in the finals to the degree where we do not get blown off the park if we faced a Melbourne say.

But from here, a top four finish to me would be like winning a GF from where we have come from as a club.

Yeah I agree with you. At most with Barney we had a slim chance to potentially upset one of the other T4 teams on their bad days but it’s clear as rain the difference in talent and firepower between us and let’s say the Dogs or Storm and even panthers. I think this all but ends our premiership chances this year, but hopefully we continue to build on what we have going this year and retool for next year. Barney might not even play next year and have him rested for 2027.
You seem pretty convinced he shouldn't play next year and we're a series chance at signing Payne Haas, are you his agent? Hope so, when can he get here?

How many seasons did Tohu push through with his strapping? I reckon we can get a few more peak seasons from Barnett in career best form under Webster.
Let's just hope he holds up mentally during this recovery and has that drive because he has been elite out there

I think Tohu was a mummy for at least 2 seasons. Mind you he was a zombie before he was mummy, you never knew if he was hurt because he never showed an emotion, like the Warriors Lou Reed.

Yeah I just don’t know how realistic that is. That next man up mentality only works for a few weeks. Once you miss that class for an extended time it does really start to show.

At least Mitch will be involved.
He will still be part of club video talk sessions.
I dont know whether rehab takes place at Maurice Rd or specialist medical places.

Its the mental part of recovery after serious injuries.
As an individual I found people just forget about you after 3/4 weeks.

This wont be the case with Mitch.
Like I said. Mitch moves into an unofficial forwards assistant coach role for the season. He will be doing his recovery and rehab and coming to Mt Smart, to study the opposition players with the video analyst and work with the young guys to help them mentally. His never say die attitude needs to run deep with our young guys who need to dig in and not let him down. JFH now needs to stand up a little taller and pick up some of the slack.

I suspect Demetric will now be asked to play more minutes and get more involved. Don’t forget Laban, TSS and Bunty - all will play roles here.

This week - one game to the bye. A win here locks us into the 4 and gives us a 3 win buffer to 6th. Massive game for us. A win for Barney here at Shark Park will be special.

Let’s hope all of our efforts go into pumping the shire and putting them back into the chasing pack.

Onwards.

Been thinking about how we mitigate the loss of Barnett a lot, like everyone else.

Reading the calls that it is time for Marata and JFH to stand up.

The problem is that Barnett is our one percent guy, he sets the speed of the line, and he a lead chasing forward for the kick chase.

He also as we all know has the leg speed in the hit up department to compliment JFH in getting our sets rolling.

I don't see where JFH and or Marata fill that void.

Forget Marata, he doesn't have the leg speed, or engine, nor the awareness or drive for off the ball work.

JFH has taken me a while to understand, he is not a line bender, not a ball player, and neither does he have footwork. But he gets through plenty of workload, and I noticed he hits hard and effects the other teams ability to get parity in the ruck.

I think JFH main asset is that he is very good at a sustained consistent level, which anchors our middles without tearing around out there like the work maniac that is Barnett.

So I don't see calls for JFH carry it all on his own works in the absence of Barnett either. In fact without Barnett to split the focus of the defence on one top prop forward - we would be doing well if JFH manages to maintain....and not go backwards.

The guy we need to step up then is Jackson Ford.

He has the engine, is not shy around work, and his defence is good enough to match Barnett.

As a running forward he doesn't have the ability of Barnett to get the roll on, therefore Egan and Webster need to set him up for the hit up after a dominant ruck.

Ford is I realise a poor mans Barnett at best, but hey effort wise they are the same, and it is in that dept that Barnett will be missed most by this team.

We should also not assume Ford has peaked as a player, we all know that if he put away his handling issues and penalties conceded that he could fill at least the work load void.

I think Ford is up to the task. He's been far improved this year.

He made 90 post contact metres during the Raiders game, so really it's a case of consistency for him to become as damaging as Barney. Where we are losing the most, I think, is the level headed nature of our beloved co-captain.

JFH is really going to have to make sure he dodges every suspension between now and the end of the year as the next one he gets will most definitely be more than one week.
