There were posts at the time from people who knew players that played under Elliott previously.
It was summised that Elliott would have been able to bullshit his way into the job but that his comms and tactics with his teams always became to convoluted. Which was pretty evident in some of his sides performances. A key part of a review to sack him at Penrith was that his coaching was too 'complex'.
I don't doubt at all that his criticisms of some players etc are valid, but he was never ever the right person to get the role. The chances of him getting the best out of the playing group were next to zero. Let's not forget this was a guy that pretended to hang himself with his neck tie in a post match press conference...
The timings are pretty hazy in my memory now but I believe he was simply the most experienced coach available after we had missed out on Bellamy
