I still remember the aftermath of that Storm game and how a group of the players mixed sleeping pills with energy drinks to try and cope with the result. Didn’t realise that the problems ran far deeper for the bro Manu.
Players who involved , from memory:
Manu, Bodene Thompson, Ben Matulino, Hurrell ( not proven to be guilty), Sam Lisone, Albert Vete???
All of these guys pretty much moved on after this event .

If everyone else gets banned for dealing and supplying, it's only fair. I think its something like 8 years after the sentence you can apply for admission.
He had a serious conviction, he needs to deal with the consequences. I understand he’s trying to turn his life around, but it doesn’t discount the severity of what he did. It wasn’t some silly mistake, it was serious offending.

I dont get how you can post that online like you are the victim, does he want us to feel sorry for him because he is feeling the harsh consequences of importing meth?
I doubt many drug traffickers get to travel freely around the world these days, its a tough gig. If you want freedom you need to scale your operation and get your own private jet or a super yacht.

This is why I don’t want him around the club.. like I said, I see the work he’s putting into rebuilding his life. But that does not discount what he’s done. Meth is one of New Zealand’s biggest issues, destroying communities and ripping families apart. He contributed to that, on a large scale. Zero sympathy. I want the best for him but there’s consequence for his actions

Didn’t he check before he went given his history? Get pre-approved or something? It’s not like it’s his first time going overseas where you declare your criminal convictions…

Then posts all about it highlighting his stupidity…
Is there a proper process to get pre-approved?
Asking for a friend 😳

According to chat gpt: You can request a pre-departure assessment of your criminal history from the Australian Department of Home Affairs by submitting an online enquiry form specifically for people with criminal convictions.

Watched this last night- I found it a bit of a tough watch tbh-not quite sure what to make of the bloke- I can kinda understand how he ended up going the way he did and yes he had a couple of setbacks and misfortune but who hasnt? He was such an amazing talent and gave us some great memories but at the end of it all I was left thinking- he's just not that bright...

In some countries he gets executed, he served 15 months. Our system is so bad that I was told by an insider, pedos, serial killers and schizophrenic patients who tried to stab him on his visit, live in residential communities among us and could literally make bookings and be alone with brokers, massage clinics, etc etc and you'll have no idea. 1 pedo started having urges again so he sought help and checked back in, but he could have easily start doing what he does there are no checks on him.

So I don't get the urge to make a full on episode creating a redemption story. What are they trying to say? It's ok to sell drugs to kids, cop a light sentence, feel sad for yourself, then you can go on cable TV to propel yourself to the next gig because you scored a few tries in NRL and is doing some community work (or not)? Where's the redemption when the punishment was...15 months? Maybe they could interview a few victims and their fams, and tell the public why they shouldn't get into drugs or distributing it, but nope let's show the awesome tries the dealer had in his prime and how remorseful he is after halving his jail time.

Edit: and just saw the above posts about denied entry to AUS....very entitled. And I'm not saying he shouldn't work on his life and whatever, but the spotlight is pretty tone deaf.

Some never mature.

Best wishes to him. Might be be a legend at the Warriors but personally i have removed him from the pedestal i had placed him on as a Warriors legend. IMO he didnt do enough time. Meth harms not only the people taking it but the society around those people, and all he can think of was how his family saw the event unfold when they busted the door open...yeah ok. Had the world at his feet and that is the path a person who wanted to be a future policeman after his NRL career took. Hope he stays on the path to recovery.

It was a sad watch. He didnt use his playing career and the support that provides to set up his retirement.
Goes to show how critical it is for players to be educated and mentored to do be able to do that. Whether its the club or player agent.

He wasn't really equipped to be a senior figure at the club was he.

Also the line about the club promising to sweep the Red Bull and Sleeping Pills saga under the carpet but it leaking - he still seems mad at that rather than realising it was a pretty bad situation highlights he's still a bit immature.

That was leaked on here first by a prominent trusted member. Recall the club asking for the post to be deleted, but shortly after they ended up doing a press release confirming what had happened.

That line stuck out to me too, “felt betrayed” that it got out rather than taking stock of his actions was quite telling for me. Also letting down his parents being the focus of his regret rather than the harm he did gave a bit of insight.
In saying that he’s got to move forward with his life and good on him for getting back on his feet in a field that appears to be doing some good.
